A ban would give me power to address it. Right now i can do nothing legally.
But as i have said. Not for a ban. Just some responsibility for dog hunters and a way to protect my rights.
Its so shitty where i am i honestly fear they would burn my grandmas house down in retaliation. They lit pine trees on fire before

That doesn't grant them the right to shoot a rifle on the highway. They obviously don't care that what they are doing is illegal. Have you ever seen them skirt around the law with this excuse? I doubt it flies.

Oh they can't read that, it makes sense

No it wouldn't. They'll take the collars off their dogs and you will have zero proof that they are dog hunting.

Honestly if they had a trAcking system and dog owners were trying actively to keep the dogs on thier land. I would likely help them and not turn them in. I just want a little respect.
And id like to hear the peace of the woods one christmas without hearing dogs howling

Who here thinks their dog hunting problems will even be affected by a ban?
I'd say 50% decrease. shite would still happen.
I've said it numerous times. I just want nobody to have an excuse to stand in front of my property ready to shoot anything that tries to cross the road.

They already don't have an excuse to do it with a gun in their hands. That is already illegal.
If they don't have a gun in their hands no amount of legislation will allow you to have them removed from the servitude in front of your property.

No collar equals mangy wild dog. Same as a yote. Which gives me the ability to address it. I have seen wild dogs and they dont act like the deer dogs. Sorry i just dont think itd be the same. Plus people running dogs in my area are easily recognizable. Wardens would be able to act more effectively
Also. One generation may do this but in time it would die out.
I dont think that a ban is the end all be all answer though. Im open to land size restrictions or other management systems

I have the same issue with the road thing. Hell ive seen them park and drop the dogs off in my gmas front yard. We own property on both sides the road. Another 500 acres is leased to non dog hunters. Its literally the minority land owner ruining everything for the majority.

Trash breeds trash man. It wouldn't die out.

I read a few pages of this thread and all I got to say is I can't wait to get home for and hear some walkers jump.

Im going to bed. I enjoy the discussion with respectable hunters and thats why i like this board.
Id be willing to show you what i deal with. You are not the type of dog hunters i have endured the last 17 years. Unfortunately you get drug through the mud with them. And the numbers of respectable dog hunters is decreasing pretty quickly

Not the law, but me. A guy hopped out of his truck 2 years ago on the creek that comes out of my property and goes under the road. He had his tracking antenna in one hand and a gun in the other.
I questioned him, and he said, "I'm just trying to catch my dogs."
I said, "well what's the gun for?"
He replied, "Oh it's just habit, I might see a snake or something."
Now you tell me, if I'm not there and a deer jumps out, what happens?
He doesn't care that it's illegal, and I'm sorry your kids wont get to do it if it gets banned. But I'll feel a lot better about it if it's not legal to organize, and hunt like this.
It's crazy that they can release dogs, and go in front of anyone's property to catch them as long as the have a highway or right of way. And we all know what happens when a deer jumps out in front of a dog hunter. That's why they are doing it in the first place.

This. I've seen it happen here for 30 years now. No collars or ID of any kind on the strays they turn loose. They ride the roads listening for the dogs and then try to figure out where the deer is going to cross and they wait for it. If it's on somebody's land that they think they can get away with trespassing, then they take off into the woods and...wait. They can't be charged with deer dogging since the dogs aren't "theirs". Yeah, right. And GJ's or the sheriff has to catch em trespassing or actually shooting from the road right of way to charge em and take em to jail. Fortunately, it's a very small number of "hunters" who do this, but it gives all of us a bad reputation.

Yep. All the respectable ones quit doing it when it becomes a problem.

My point was i can shoot a wild dog.
Understand your argument though. Im simply about to lace my property with cameras high in trees.

i know guys who do it right on huge pieces of land and mean no harm but there are those guys who give dog hunters a bad name...we had a lease in mississippi a guy had "lost" his dogs and was radioing for them and the farmer who owns the property next to ours said he shot a pretty decent 9 point grabbed his dogs and jetted out...of course there are people who have no respect in any branch of hunting/fishing...

You keep missing my point some how. I know it's illegal, they know it's illegal.
I'm all for you dog hunting on your land. If they were to ban the activity I wouldn't feel bad though. I'd actually sleep a little better at night...
