This is one of those things where the ethical dog hunters had best propose a solution before the dumbasses kneejerk to the legislature for a ban.
Exactly. Dog hunters have us in this mess so the few ethical ones out there better come up with a compromise because I am ready for an all out ban. If you are a still hunter who hunts anywhere near dog hunters, you don't get to hunt....period. The only people who get to hunt near dog hunters are dog hunters. So if I can't hunt on my own land I paid for, then by god I don't want any dog hunting trespasser hunting it either.
So if you want to save your sport and your traditions, you better come up with something because the excuses I have seen in this thread are going to lead to nothing but a ban. You can't keep blaming it on the bad apples when the basket is full of bad apples and only a few good ones.

It wasnt on this thread. Sorry shouldve specified. It was another massive 30 page thread on it a while back.
Jog your memory. They trespassed. I confronted stating private property. Came around road they radioed ahead and friend blocked road. Blocked in dss truck and pointed guns in our direction while chewing us out. Many drunk. Honestly thought there would be shots fired.
Thats the type of dog hunters i deal with. Jail is not a foreign place for them. They disregard law and others rights. It has been that way since i was starting hunting. Hasnt changed. I understand your argument and honestly believe you are a good hunter. I just dont think you fully understand the depth of the issue in my area

This is a comical thread

downshift, your theory that any laws banning dog hunting would be unenforcable is just wrong. kind of hard to hide when you have a pack of hounds running. Also hard to stand a drive without standing roads. THey may be the easiest outlaws to catch.
Then make laws specific to running hounds and and make the fine so damn steep that it's not worth it.

I've been in clubs that allowed dogs. I've been hunting in one that doesn't since 91. Dog hunting falls into 2 categories, just like regular hunters. Good and bad.
Unfortunately, my experiences have always been bad. In my current club, we subscribed to the permanent fix. We have 2000 or so acres, the boardering club has less than 1000. When their dogs end up in the middle of ours, there's no excuse. I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate us doing a mandrive on their land and running the deer back towards our property where folks are ready to shoot.

I'm sorry I missed this thread, as I, Salmon, loathe dog hunters with all my fury.
Seriously.
I have to go masturbate angrily in the bathroom now to get all this hatred out of my system.

So we are going to issue citations to all hunters who are in the woods while stray dogs are running on their property? You are outlawing as much as they are if that's the case.

We both know that we can tell when someone is running dogs, and when it is just strays running
ETA: so happy the thread is not dead afterall!

Ill keep it going as long as you want.
What y'all fail to understand is that there is absolutely no way to prove they put the dogs there. If its illegal to hunt while dogs are running deer on a piece of property, you won't be able to hunt your own.

yes I will, because I will end them quickly

I believe most of the hatred for dog hunters comes from the apparent fact that a higher percentage of dog hunters partake in illegal hunting activities than any other hunter.

That seems to be working oh so well for everyone else here.

They don't have to be "put" there. But if they are running deer on someone elses property, the dog owners are responsible for that. The BS excuse, dogs don't know property lines, isn't a valid excuse. Hunt respectfully with them, or find another place to hunt that won't interfere with other hunters on bordering properties. People like myself, invest too much money into hunting for it to be ruined by disrespectful people from other clubs.
I'd be fine if they simply passed a law, including deer under the livestock law. If you have an animal threatening your deer (possession on your land being your deer), you face no penalty in shooting them. Perhaps that would encourage more responsible dog hunters, if they were losing $500 or more in dogs a season.

No. frick that. Deer are wild and you do not own them no matter how many bazillions of dollars you invest in your property unless you put a fence around it and buy the deer and put them there.

We get it. Banning dog hunting would not eliminate all our problems. But it would damn sure get rid of most of the problem and at least provide some legal help to property owners who do not want dogs on our land.
Why would it do any good if your game wardens cant enforce the existing laws now?
quote:
Game wardens are only going to respond when they can, which is rare since there are only a few in every county and they are busy as hell on a fall Saturday. And any time you call the warden, the dog hunters are long gone by the time they show up 4 hours later.
