Damnit. I've blamed them in damn near every other post, and I'm tired of saying it. For the bazillionth time, I hate them as much as you do. I'm here to cover my own arse and hopefully get some people to see that maybe screaming for a total ban of dog hunting is not necessary and probably not the best idea to completely kill a part of our hunting heritage.

property owners are getting sick and tired of it

You need to quit using that term like that. It is 100% possible to be both a property owner and a dog hunter.

I ain't in the dog catching business.

The argument is not about hunting with dogs vs. not hunting with dogs.

The biggest problem is these guys "catching" their dogs on other people's property. We are all hunters here and all of us would get juiced if a big buck jumped out in front of you while your waiting on the dogs. You may be ethical, but I would venture to say 90% of dog hunters would blast the buck no matter where they were. Therein lies the problem I have with it.

The dogs give them an excuse to stand on the right of way and hunt anything coming off your property. The guys around me don't get on my property, but they damn sure sit on the road frontage I have and wait on anything to cross.

They all have collars with our name, number, and address on them. I wonder if we would be liable if somebody pushed the issue?

Just sayin that they rarely get to anybody else's property. The dogs go where the deer go and the deer don't like going close to the road. Deer in the swamp don't go in much bigger circles than rabbits.

Would fully endorse and help dog hunters hunt on their own property..only issue I have is the trespassing and overall contempt for neighboring land owners. Wish it was that simple.

I'm pretty sure that it's illegal to discharge a firearm within some distance of a highway.

I don't know 90% of the dog hunters in this state, but I sure hope that is inaccurate.

And I don't understand the craziness with some people that let 20 dogs out. We may of been doing it wrong but typically we let 5-6 dogs out many times when you shot a deer you would barely hear the dogs cause they were behind them a good bit you did have your times where dogs where right behind the deer but wasn't often

People gonna bitch no matter what. I enjoy running dogs and we have killed more big bucks in front of them. Yes hunters can be pricks but thats with any method for hunting. If you really think dogs run deer off a property you have no clue about hunting....just sit on a stand after a morning drive and I will bet you will see increased activity because the deer had to get up and move. Everyone wants to pour out piles of corn and sit on a 300ft shooting lane and just maybe get the opportunity to kill a good deer, which is fine to each his own but what I do on my land aint nobody's damn business. Hell the same argument could be made for us with big bass boats lets just ban them too seeing as how some feel that we endanger and ruin fishing trips

Nobody is saying they have a problem with you running dogs on your land.

Yeah. Now you're getting it.

I don't have regular hunters sitting on the road in front of my property.

But if dogs start making their way towards my property 6 4x4's pull up and unload 12 people with guns prepared to catch their dogs. And if a deer happens to be in front of them, which is why dogs bark and chase in the first place... guess what happens next.

Now, extrapolate that with the fact that I'm not there all the time. Then add the stories my actual neighbors who live next to the property have told me about all of them lining up on the fence, and how it's a different story if my truck is parked at the camp.

It's fricking bull shite, and I'm sorry that you are one of the 4 ethical dog hunters in the state and have to bear this burden. However, we aren't just making this stuff up to troll you.

There is a statewide leash law and you are responsible for any Damage caused by an animal you own.

I don't know 90% of dog hunters either, but I know that 100% of the ones I grew up with would kill anything that walked no matter where it was walking. Hell, I've seen a deer shot in a mans front yard!

I feel bad for everyone coming down on you in this thread. I know how difficult it is defending a way of life, but I promise you, your group of guys, if as responsible as described, are def in a tiny minority of dog hunters.

What makes you think banning dog hunting will stop them from just dropping off some collarless hounds in the woods? I see this going the way of gun control laws. My law abiding arse will quit running dogs because the law says I can't, and the outlaws will keep doing it because the law can't stop them.

ETA: And if that happens, I will hate every single person who pushed that law to pass. I don't think anybody here can wrap their head around how passionate I am about dog hunting.

You just made zero sense.

Not the issue.

The problem would be putting your bass boat in my pond...

I started duck hunting predominately because of the dognhunters. I respect downshift and floorit. But he straight up called me a liar with the last post i made on dog hunters and my run in with them. Deepsouthsportsman can attest that story in mississippi.

Anyway. My hunting had gotten better the last few years. Less dogs etc. last week the hunters ran me off my stand. Running downthe road through my property on bikes yelling for the dogs. Its a damn joke they run dogs on 40 acres and think the dogs are staying there.
I live dogs and have three. But the only deterrent i have found to dog hunters trespassing is hit em where it hurts. Their wallets.
Game wardens and sheriffs hands are tired with the dogs

I know they would... they still fight cocks in the area too.

The legality of dog hunting creates an excuse for them to be on the right of way in front of my property. If they dropped off collarless hounds they would not have an excuse to sit on the road with their gun in front of my property.

People still night hunt, kill over legal limits, etc. Not all of us that run dogs are outlaws. I understand there are those runner and gunners who think they own the woods but to completely outlaw he sport is a ridiculous means to an end

I just went through all 8 pages of this thread and it doesn't look like I replied to a single one of your posts.

What they're doing is already illegal. You can't hunt on a public highway.
