semi hijack for a second.. Any of you fellers familiar with Axis deer in W. Texas? Do they normally still have velvet this time of year?
I know Whitetail, but don't know ANYTHING about Axis, but it seemed strange to me..

Little help, little help....

YES YES YES!!!!!

They started two days ago with pre rut bucks have started to move. We have killed 4 bucks at our place in the last 2.5 days. Not many scrapes yet, I think they will be rutting between Christmas and New Years. Unfortunately I missed a really nice deer for Washington Parish night before last. Haven't done that in a long time.

Just saw a buck walk across a pipeline about 15 minutes after two does did. Not sure if he is sniffing or was just passing. Our property line is about 800 yards down and they were 200 yards past that.

I haven't seen anything lately. a few night pics but nothing impressive. A LOT of shooting close by my property today though. I hope no one takes the two young 6s and a 4 that hang out here. makes me nervous about letting them walk

Green head if talking to me nothing extraordinary except for the one I missed. He was 10 point about 18" spread and tall, really nice for washington parish. If the SOB wouldn't have seen me take my gun out the window at 225 yards he would likely be dead however I took a shot head on and shot low. So far we have killed a cull 4 point, an oops spike, and a 6 and 8. They are just about to get going good I think, I am expecting big things in the next week.
