I'm an idiot today, just walked around for an hour with my climber. Good workout I guess. But now I'm sitting on my stool with my bipod on a field, camo jacket on the bipod as I makeshift blind, looking at where I hope they'll come out of thick cedars at dusk. I never do this, I prefer to climb trees. But being in the woods has been a bunch of nothing, so here we go, something different. Hope someone out there is getting them!

Best of luck to you

Same everything from this morning for me. Pretty sure the buck I didn’t shoot was the big 8 we’ve been seeing. Sucks I didn’t get much of an ID on him. Maybe he’ll come back out

Doe or pig hunt
Greensburg, LA
73 degrees, sunny with 9 mph south wind
Old tang safety Ruger 77 in 300 win mag with 180 gr Nosler ballistic tip handloads

Frying pork and sausage on the camp porch for jambalaya tonight. Watching playoffs and the driveway loaded with corn. Got too much going on…so I’m certain a doe will step out right before dark.

Back on the very back of the property near the river. They’ve stomped a mud hole around the feeder and no one has hunted here this year. Activity on camera way down since I made the rounds filling feeders, hoping they will settle down (and start the rut) by when I return next Friday.

Question. What time do you guys get into your spot for an evening hunt? We’ve always targeted being locked and loaded by 3:00, wondering if that’s too late?

In a leaner behind my house N Fl
12 gauge
It was a long day running dogs. Nothing killed or even shot at. Everybody is exhausted. Kids in their skivvies. I had to come sit for the last bit of cool weather we will have in north Florida for the foreseeable future.

Rules at our club are on the stand by 3 this time of year.

That’s what a lot of our guys shoot for. I try to get there a little earlier, especially during the rut. We had two does eating corn at 2 where I’m at

3pm is what I typically shoot for. The rut is the only exception. This week should be our rut so my plan is to rifle hunt until 12. Get down for an hour to eat and move spots to bow hunt the afternoons.

30 min before daylight, ideally. Don’t get many days these days.

I do swamprat but it’s still the original trigger. Let me know how it goes.

My 8 year old shot his first deer tonight. A 9 point that had a point knocked off and would have been a perfect 10. Was chasing some does and finally stopped long enough for a shot at about 90ish yards. Surprised me with how good his shot was. Ran about 50 yards and crashed in the woods.

I’ve only ever shot 8 points, so I guess I get to hunt again and he has to watch me.
