You’re not far from where I hunt, what were your observations on the rut?

Just hunt once a year or so with some friends on the Navy base. They seem to be in rut now and have been the past 2 weeks. Saw a small buck circling at about 300 yds for a while this AM. Too far for my 45-70. No one else saw anything today. I saw 13 deer driving from my hotel this AM. They must have been up all night. Going back in the stand at 2pm in the rain.

Raining pretty steady
Made a quick duck hunt this morning with my 7yo tagging along.
Lunch packed and sitting in a box now. Going to be a cold mother tomorrow.

Plenty early woodies, followed by absolutely zero big ducks.

Went to some Mississippi public not too far from the house I'd never been to. One big fox squirrel. Saw a whole lot of deer sign.

Impromptu trip with a couple of buddies of over 30 years from back home. Nothing I have with me on this hunt belongs to me besides my outer fleece handed down from EJW. One of the guys I'm with is recovering from cancer. I'm here for the laughs and memories. Anything else is lagniappe.
