I have and I worked at one as a wringer in Hot Wells, LA off of Hot Wells road. I think they are illegal in Louisiana but I am not sure. I remember that there were many rich people and even a shiek that flew in from Saudi Arabia. They were paying us handsomly under the table without taxes withheld so I'm guessing that it was illegal.

I have never paid for a hunt

What does this mean? I have paid for hunts before, just not to kill pen raised birds. I have also guided many a duck and quail hunt. so because we dont agree with the simple definition of the word hunt, i dont know what im talking about? LOLok

Honestly? Not really. Unless the general public is against killing animals for food in general.

I really don't get the outrage unless the person is disconnected from where food comes from overall.

It's not difficult to understand why hunters who want to protect their sport(s) would want to distance themselves from something like this.

Hunters have been having to defend their sport in the courts of public opinion for years, and someone calling that "hunting" doesn't help. You know as well as I do, that idiot voters can put people in power to restrict anything, and negative PR, which this definitely is, can't help.

I know. But those hunters have been defending their sport against lies, unfounded accusations, and completely ridiculous propaganda put forth by folks that don't want animals to even be used for food at all. This isn't any different.

I just don't get how this gives hunters a worse name than quail farmers/ranchers/whateverthefrickyoucallthem.

You mean like most Americans?

You have all those people on the OT bitching at others for buying dogs from breeders instead of rescuing one from a shelter, because the shelter/pound dogs get euthanized. How do you think they'll feel about someone throwing a pen raised bird in the air and having someone shoot it just for fun?

I'd bet the average American would be horrified if they saw somebody wring a chicken's neck. And you know how the libs feel about guns.

Because in their minds a farm you raise the animals, sell them, and they end up at the supermarket for them to buy. There's a big blank in their minds at the part where the cow goes from eating grass in the pasture to a quartered carcass hanging in a meatlocker.

P.S. It's called a quail shoot (not hunt) and it's ethical.

Door to door salesman came to the house when brother just got done whacking yard birds. Told guy house was clean, but asked what he charged to "clean one of these" holding up bloody headless chicken. Hillarity ensued. Guy was mortified. That is your average american.

Eta: guy was selling house cleaning service

Lot of disinformation out there, and there is enough shite to fight and worry about without having to defend shooting as hunting.

I don't care if you raise doves in a cage, name them, knit them orange yarn jackts, throw them high and shoot em if you want the food and that is how you choose to get the meat. It isn't hunting though IMO.

so youre admitting to participating in illegal activity, but you are ridiculing people for legal activity?

I'm sure you guys are right on this.

I really don't think you can effectively argue the difference between "hunting" and "shooting" to someone that has a problem with killing birds this way though. They won't "get it".

This thread is going around in circles at this point. I think every single one of us agrees that it's not hunting, so let's leave it at that.

Anyways, I just inhaled a super burrito from Izzos.
