If you would, please explain how to do this.

Seriously. Exlain it.

In detail.

Easier said than done I agree. Still, I won't be hunting any pen raised quail. None of my business if anyone else does though.

I would agree, and wouldn't call captive birds game.

There is no such thing as a tame quail.

Pen raised, yes. They will all fly away given the chance.

I will say that I would not shoot a quail that someone picked up and threw. Like others said, the guys that put them out just did it wrong.

There is nothing horrible about shooting pen-raised quail. I would never pay to do it, but I'd shoot those quail if offered the opportunity.

But I would also never claim that what I did was "quail hunting".

It's not horrible, just like shooting a cow and eating it is no better or worse than slicing its head off in a meat packing warehouse. But if I shoot a cow, I don't call it hunting either.

I shot a quail once. Couldn't find it, it was in some thick nasty briars and shite. Never seen one in the wild since

So, you're telling me that if you had an opportunity for a quail hunt at a quail plantation in southern GA you would turn down the opportunity?

I understand the "You're a pussy for shooting farm raised birds criticism". I don't understand the "That is unethical and inhumane, you give hunters a bad name criticism".

Its either humane or not to shoot a bird. It doesn't get more inhumane if the bird was raised in a cage and tossed into the air by a handler. (IMHO of course.)

Its easier. You might be "guaranteed" to see and shoot birds by the guide. Etc. All those things might be true. But for someone to stand on some moral high ground and declare they are more humane and ethical because the game was harder to find, and harder to kill, makes absolutely no sense to me.

Are there no wild quail left? We used to hunt quail all the time down in N. La.

Sending a pointer in to flush a covey of birds that fly just as fast as a wild one
False. You may not have to throw them but the birds were not born wild in that environment and will not be the same. I've hunted quail numerous times in LA and I love it and will be doing it next month. However, it is nothing like quail in Texas and the coveys do not flush the same. There's nothing wrong with that at all. But to say it is equivalent is untrue. I do it to train my dogs for Texas hunts and I enjoy cooking the meat later (like colorado said, it's certainly still a clean kill). That being said, I still wouldn't call it hunting; it's practice. For the record, I've had to kick up a few coveys with my feet to make them flush. I've also had a few fly to my truck and hide under it. This happened at different establishments. I encourage people to hunt with dogs, enjoy firearms, kill and clean their food, and enjoy the outdoors. It's still not hunting.

"Hey guys, wanna go on a pen raised quail hunt?"

I mean, you still have to hunt the birds. They dont have strings on their feet, and they arent spray painted orange. They also do come to you when you call them. I have never paid for a hunt, but i have seen enough of them to know those birds are about as wild as any other bird. Especially after being in the field for a few days.
Im not saying its the most ethical hunting, or that you are hunting "game", but at the most simple definition of the word, you are hunting these animals.

exactly

I don't think anyone has claimed it's unethical or inhumane, we just don't think it's hunting.

I don't see what is so wrong with that. Why can't they admit that it's just not hunting?
