What is that? Native to LA? Never seen one.
What is the gigantor wasp that has the super huge tail? Those things make we really nervous like they could kill you with one sting.

They're called cow ants or red velvet ants. But they are actually ground wasps. Pretty sure they are native to the whole world
The stinger
They call them cow killers, because the pain is so bad it is said it could bring down a full grown cow.

Same thing here. Weedeating one day, hit the nest and didn't realize it, until the SOB's swarmed up my shorts and shirt and wore me out. Damn near stripped necked while I was running....that's been about 15 and I still get goosebumps thinking about that.

Remember the first time I saw one of those gigantic cicada killer wasps. Motherfricker almost got me but I ran in the garage like a girl and damn near pissed myself

I've been stung by plenty of wasps and bees over the years.
But its bumblebees that make me cry!

Same thing happened to me washing the cars one day. We had washed my wife's van and I pulled it up the driveway to dry. My girl was out there helping me, and I guess she was about 6 or 7 at the time. So on to washing my Jeep. I was filling up the bucket with fresh soap, standing barefoot in the driveway with a tank top and gym shorts on. Felt something pop my left knee. I swatted it, thinking a mosquito or bee had hit me. The actual sting wasn't that bad. Then I felt another one on my thigh, then another one higher up. Apparently I made him mad, and next thing that happened I was stripping off those shorts and threw my shirt off as well. I'm then standing in the driveway in boxers only. My daughter is laughing like crazy at me. Then I see the red wasp crawl slowly out of the waistband of the shorts I had thrown about 15 feet when I took them off. I killed him, and then went on a mission to kill the others flying around. I got stung 3 times but I took out about 8-10 of those things and bought some stuff to spray the eaves of the house.

I was peeing outside my grandparents' house next to an old grill one time and about 4 or 5 of some dark red/purple looking wasps all flew out and popped me all over my arm (thankfully). Felt like I got electrocuted. I sprinted across the yard with my pants down cussing
That was 6 or 7 years ago and I still get chills thinking about that.

I haven't been stung since 3rd grade (I'm 33 now). Reading y'alls stories is freaking me out. I know my luck is going to run out eventually but not knowing when and how bad it's going to be freaks me out.
My wife (and everyone else) laughs at me and loves to poke fun at me when I panic around a wasp but it's for good reason. frick those bastards.

Bourdon, as my dad likes to call them in Cajun French.
Small, Black, Ground nesting...Bad MFers.
I was about 17yos old clearing some land on a D5 dozer with my dad who was in an excavator nearby. The dozer was older so the windows had been knocked out and expansion metal surrounded the cab. Hit a nest with the blade and hell broke loose. After the first couple of stings, I realized what shite I was in so I threw it in high reverse and backed outta' there. I jumped off the dozer while it was still rolling backwards and ran about a mile to my dad's truck swatting and screaming. They were still following and hitting me. Got in the truck and there was a couple still inside my shirt and still stinging me. Killed the ones inside the truck as my dad finally got there to see what happened. We counted 37 stings. Ears, face, scalp, arms, hands, back, stomach. I laid in bed for two days after that, all fricked up, swollen, itching, and sore AF.
Went back a few days later and poured a bunch of diesel and gas by and in the hole then got back and threw a torch at them. Some old men where we were working told us stories of hitting them with bushhogs and them SOBs pounding the windows trying to get them for an hour after the initial hit. Also, they said if you try and dive in water and submerge yourself, they will hover until you pop up. They said they knew of someone that drowned trying to get away from them.
TL:DR - Frick a ground nesting bumblebee
