I have the Inspira in my Amazon cart as an option for my son. I’ll check out the ITX as well.

It’s my understanding we will be fishing plastics exclusively.

I just use one of my better bass rigs to fish soft plastics inshore. Baitcasters are more accurate and easier to detect bites with. I actually only own one spin cast and I rarely use it. Just not a fan of the feel. I like big open face reels for catching bulls. I only use spincast if I have too.

I don't think the BG can be beat at it's price point. I own Stradics as well but you're talking two different price ranges. Either will work for you, you just need to decide how much you want to spend.

I wouldn't personally look beyond Shimano or Daiwa but that's personal preference and "I know what I'm getting" more than "all other reels are shite".

If it's not windy that's my preference as well, although I eventually just bought a Daiwa Coastal, so now I use my redfish reel for bass instead of the other way around.

Unfortunately I'm not a bass fisherman so my inventory in that department is a big fat zero. I get to GI several times a year with close friends and all my equipment needs/purchases are based on use down there.

I should add that this set-up would only get used a few times a year, not that I mind paying up for the Stradic if that's what is recommended.

Stradics are great and durable. That being said I think you could get the same enjoyment with a lower priced reel. Really up to you and how much you want to spend on this.

You can easily shop around for reels online on various sites (Tackle Direct, Tackle Warehouse, Midway, Amazon, etc...) to find lowest price. I'd recommend purchasing rod a physical brick and mortar however.

Few times a year BG, no question. I think Shimano makes one in that price range but I'm not familiar with it.

If it's windy I have 3 spinning reels on my kayak, all 2500s. A BG, a ~$240 Stradic Ci4+ and a ~$240 Japanese made Daiwa Luvias. I switch back and forth all the time and the biggest difference I notice on the BG is that it's litte heavier, and that's throwing them for 4 hours at a time. It's not like I pick it up and it's way less smooth, casts poorly or anything else. I've had $100 reels (including a Shimano Saros) that collect dust because they just felt like crap and it detracted from my enjoyment, but the BG holds its own just fine in more expensive company.

all 2500s.

I'm glad you brought this up as it leads me to another question.... a 4000 would be overkill in your opinion, meaning stick to a 2500 or 3000?

I'm no pro or anything but IMO 2500 is perfect for inshore, especially with braid, and a lot if not most 3000s are the 2500 body with a slightly deeper spool.

x2

With braided line the spool capacity is no longer an issue/limiting factor. I buy the smallest sized reels with acceptable drag power. 15-20lbs drag is all you need inshore fishing.

Okuma ITX are great reels for that price and not as bulky/heavy as the BG

Okuma's are excellent reels in my experience, they are not as popular in this part of the country. I bought a Coronada Bait Feeder for surf fishing over a decade ago and it is still going strong. I rinse it with fresh water and spray it with reel magic at the end of every trip, nothing more.

Get a 3000 series Penn Battle II or III; they are outstanding.

Have Penn battle and fierce. Also have a BG and a stradic. The battle is trying to take a dump on me. Oiled it up, still tight, little disappointed only a couple years old.

Have several BGs more used for mangrove and they take a beating. They are brutes. Huge difference btw the BG tho and a Stradic in terms of weight smoothness etc.

Needed something last second and picked up a diawa revros for dirt cheap $40. Super smooth. Time will tell

I will be buying more Diawas for longevity and price.
