Anybody have any experience with these dogs?

Interested in getting one. The only thing I’m worried about is my fiancé has a rabbit. Was wondering if the schnauzer is raised around the rabbit if it’ll keep a relationship.

Thanks guys

Nope that dog is bred to eat that. He is already making the rice.

My wife had one when we started dating in 03. He died in 05 when he was 9yrs old. We bought another one right before Katrina. He is still alive and well. My in-laws also had one that has since passed.

They are extremely smart and loving. When our current one was a puppy, he was full go from the time he woke up until we went to bed. Now that he's older, he's more of a lap dog and constantly wants to be petted.

Unfortunately, I don't think it would treat the rabbit too kindly. Mine will chase squirrels and rabbits and has killed his share of moles. But they are great dogs, easily house broken and crate trained. And they don't shed. Biggest issue for us is they all have had queasy stomachs resulting in numerous occasions of cleaning vomit of the floor. When I say numerous, I mean a few times a yr. Overall, great dogs with great personalities and they've all been good with our kids. We will get another one when the time comes.

Schnauzer's are ratters. They are born and bred to catch and kill rodents. They are high strung but fun dogs.

I've been considering a Giant Schnauzer as my next dog.

It's going to be fighting instincts to not attack that rabbit. They go absolutely ape shite at squirrels, rabbits, and the like.

A friend of mine had one and lived in a mid century modern house with glassed windows floor to ceiling all the way around. The dog spent the entire day barking at squirrel's in the yard that it could see because of the windows. They had to put the dog on doggy valium to get it to chill out.

We owned a 4-5 of them over the years when I was growing up. They're great dogs. Very loyal and affectionate. They do bark a lot. They can also get a little grumpy as they age.

Best dogs ever. Small enough for in house, loyal, smart and alert for watchdog. Very territorial tho.
Had two at different times and were the best dogs I ever had.

We got one from a rescue group when she was 1.5 years old. She loved adults but would get territorial if the kids got too close to the adults. Smart, energetic, and no shedding. There’s no telling what happened to her before we got her so getting one as a puppy would have worked even better.

No, but need to keep them trimmed up. Beards can get stained from food also but no big deal

Very loyal. Can’t say that enough. Will go ape shite over squirrels and birds in the yard daily. No chance keeping Peter rabbit away from him. Mines older now and has calmed dramatically, but he still has his moments where it’s 0-100 in seconds.

I had one for ten years. He was very smart and loving as others mentioned. Barked at anything and did get grumpy with old age. No way that rabbit would stand a chance they are too high strung.

Playful, smart, excellent family dog. Can be wary of people outside the family.

Just discovered they can get sea sick today. Mine had to come fishing with me today, wouldn't stay in bed with my wife. He got a dose of Elmer's rollers and lost his breakfast a couple of times. They are awesome dogs, very little shedding, smart, and great with my daughter who's a year old and molests him daily. Only downside is the barking as others have mentioned, and I would not think this would go well with the bunny.

Thanks guys, I guess we shall wait on getting a miniature schnauzer

However, I’m very excited whenever the time comes. I’ve read up on them a lot and they seem like pretty great dogs.

Appreciate all the answers. Pretty sure the fiancé would kill me if the dog killed peter rabbit.

They’re great dogs. Had one growing up and bought my parents one for Christmas when I was in college. Very sweet dogs

We have a mix now. He came up to my parents house about 6yrs ago. He was probably 6mth to a year old at the time. I think he’s a schnauzer and yorkie mix. He’s an awesome dog and love to play with my other two big dogs. He will try to attack anything that moves sometimes though.

I miss my schnauzers. Ole Brewster lived to 17 years old. Nobody would come in our yard unless we would tell Brewster to chill out. I got another after that and had to give him away because I didn't have time for him with 2 new kids and a new job. I regret that all the time. They do bark at everything.

We had ours for 16 years and he was pretty much just as described by everyone who commented. Just a wonderful dog. I still miss him.
