I think everyone can agree that what is in that picture is a true white perch. Crappie have a different dorsal fin than a white perch.

Call them whatever you want, just call me to go with you when they are biting.

That is just stupid. My red neck buddies at Larto give me he'll for keeping a few small ones. I like to fry them whole along with filets. My old grandma would have hit me with a paddle for throwing them back.

FWIW...
quote:

The white perch (pomoxis annularis) was designated the official freshwater fish of Louisiana in 1993. Also called sac-au-lait, white crappie, speckled perch, papermouth, goggleeye, silver bass, and bachelor perch, the white perch is a schooling fish in the sunfish family.

Sweet bump. Caught some Saturday at Toledo. Got a hot tip about Saline, so I risked divorce and went there this morning. I caught two. The guy that gave me the tip had over 20 when I left in disgust.

Thanks. Water is real low. Where we caught them spawning on south end last year is now dry ground.

That is why it is crazy that they put a white perch on the plaque. That is not the fish y'all are calling a white perch.

This is the fish on the plaque.

This is the fish y'all call white perch.

The person who did the plaque screwed up.
