Besides the LSU tag, are you secretly posting as my dad?

So you have killed many deer with a .243 I already got that notion.

How about with a .22-250. Cause if you can say you have then I know for sure I know you.

I can agree with this. But most of the deer I have had to track shot by friends or (my fricking brother who is a miserable shot), it's always the same story. They don't hunt much or don't know their rifle. And it always ends up in a lost deer.

well I shoot my deer in the head(with a 300 wsm) so I haven't have to track one in a while

If I'm hunting in the woods it's with my 444

All my rifle deer except 1 which was with a 30/30.

I have never shot one. I see plenty of reports of kids doing it. To me, we have clearly moved into varmint range with the .22 center fires.

My dad/you say you can hear the bullet hit the deer before the report of the rifle. Must be head shots?

I gave it up a while back. I only do it now for doe control on a friend's place. Other than taking my kid, I doubt I ever fire a center fire rifle ever again.

You took pictures of a buck at 600 yards? Really?

I bet 99% of the magnum crowd are shooting rifles that are incapable of shooting 400 yds.

Possibly, but I'm counting on my 12 gauge for most of that.

Some of the most typical calibers:
243
270
30-30
30-06
308
7mm

Some more specialty rounds:
270wsm
300wsm
7mm-08

The 243 and 30-30 will be primarily closer range and smaller game weapons.
I personally like the Western feel of a lever action 30-30.

The 270 and 308 are great flat shooting guns. Alot of deer hunters prefer these.

The 30-06 and 7mag are the all around calibers from deer to bears.

You really won't go wrong with any of these calibers. Ammunition is realtively cheap.
It will all depend on what you will be hunting and how often you will go.

If you won't hunt or shoot very often, then the cost of ammunition or amount of recoil will be negligible.
