I don’t know much about gun specifics. Did I get a good gift? Will it stop the bad guys?

Should, but if it doesn't you can beat them with it.

Maybe, shot placement is very important w/9mm. With .45ACP, I’d feel more comfortable knowing it’d stop most anyone. Just my preference…

No.

It needs bullets.

You got a good firearm. Keep it clean. Practice. Take a NRA sponsored firearm safety class.

Might it be one of the one's PSA has been putting out ... did you get it here in Columbia?

It's a nice 1911A1 in 9mm, if you got the MilSpec.

Now, if you got a cocobolo Pro Springfield then you copped a major score Pal. How many mags came with it? Or an Operator. Or a Ronin even.

Does it have any special engraving on the side?

That will be more up to you than the pistol.

I guess you didn’t know 9mm HST +p 124 gr performance is better than 45 HST in gel test. 18.3” vs 14.2”.

I love my 45 1911’s but modern day 9mm defense ammo has caught up to the 45. Advantage is 9mm mainly because of higher capacity.

This argument is played to death. Shot placement is key, but there is no denying that a 45 gives a better chance at hitting a vessel or vital organ simply because it is WIDER. Yes 9mm expands more reliably with today's technology, but 45 also expands reliably with today's technology, and over 14" of penetration is still well within FBI requirements.

ETA: A 1911 in 9mm is one of the most pleasurable pistols to shoot.

I’m guessing it’s the one I saw in the NC store as well.

A Charles Daly for $299.

Apologies. Just saw pic.

Very nice.

I have experience and know how to competently and safely operate firearms.

But if you ask me about specifics, brands, etc...I'm not sure there. That's why I asked.

Caught up, so not superior? Higher capacity doesn't always matter, if your assailant is a better shot than you. I'll take my chances w/7 rounds in my Kimber Ultra Carry .45ACP. It's just my preference.

For protection ammo I would look into Maker Bullets if you really want to eliminate a threat reasonably priced and absolutely devastating. For stock ammunition the Hornady critical defense is my go to in my 9mm and my .45 ACP. But yes a properly placed 9mm round and you have no worries.
