You're a lawyer, man.....come off that money and go buy you a comfortable yak!

I bought a $900 Tarpon 120 for $300 and a $1000 Native Manta 12' for $600 both from Craigslist in damn near brand new condition.
My advice, be patient. $1000 is a lot for a plastic boat. A few years ago, they were 300, now that Kayak and Paddleboarding is gaining popularity, the prices are going through the roof.
Do your research, cheaper brands from Academy or other sporting good stores are 2 piece hulls and have multiple reviews stating leaks from day 1.
I would recommend Wilderness Systems, Native, or Hobie. Jackson also makes a nice boat.
Rod holders are cheap and stores like Pack and Paddle will install for you. Don't fall prey to the fully loaded "fishing" kayak for 2 grand. You can fish out of any boat. As for sit in or sit on, its personal preference. Make sure you have the right length paddle, a few dry storage cases/compartments, and leashes or clips for anything you don't want to lose.

Getting close to that time of year

Good advice. The "angler models" with 2 $10 flush mount rod holders and a $20 anchor trolley are definately not worth the extremely inflated markup.

I still haven't done a trolley. I don't feel like I am missing anything and like having one less contraption on the boat.

I, on the otherhand, have two, one on each side. I can't stand not being able to stay in one place.
For anyone looking to get started I suggest making a trip or two to figure out what you want and where you want it.
I'll be in either PAC or Cocodrie on Sunday it looks like.

Just invite yourself like Pop did. Tell me a weekend and we will make it happen....especially once we move further south.

I wish.
Fall is the best time of year, then spring IMO. But you can catch year round. We will make it happen, Captain.

Anyone have any experience with the new Ascend FS128T? Think I'm finally getting close to pulling the trigger... thanks

No experience with it personally but I'll say this, the FS12T is an excellent value as far a bang for you buck goes at $550. However, the FS128T will run you $800+ once you factor in taxes and yet is still plagued by some of the same issues as the FS12T, leaky scuppers, etc. So once rigged you'll be close to $1000 into an FS128T, personally I'd suggest skipping over it and looking for a used/demo of a better make and model. That demo list from Masseys has some amazing deals, craigslist and even some of the facebook pages have good bargains right now too. Winter time is a kayak buyer's market.

That's what I have done in a DIY way. I'll take pics.
