Most of the women I've talked to liked their LCPs. They're just too small for man hands.
I've taught several women how to use my Glock 19 and they've loved that too, it's just a little hard for most women to conceal.

Yeah I guess it was just too small for my big gorilla hands.

People knock Taurus, but I picked up a 24/7 9mm bc i thought it would make a decent cheap truck gun for shooting shite while riding around the field. It became my fav gun pretty quickly. Just mho.

Eh, I'm too much of a gun snob sometimes.
$175 seems to be a good deal for anything not made by Hi-Point. Give it a try: You won't be out too much if it doesn't work out.
ETA: Small guns of any type are sometimes mistakenly thought to be perfect for beginners. Most of the time they aren't because they are harder to shoot.
Has she shot anything before? A .22 might be better to get her acclimated to shooting.

Pretty good point, I guess you could always get most of your money back if it doesn't work out. In my experiences Taurus' have been complete pieces of shite.

If she did Ok with those then she is probably fine for a .380. Small guns in any caliber can be tough to shoot for even experienced shooters though. If you get the gun for her I would suggest having her shoot your larger guns to get more experienced with trigger control, breathing, etc. so that she can build her confidence up and not possibly get frustrated out of the gate with the small gun.
Lightly loaded .38s in your Taurus would be probably be a great way to give her some good practice.

Absolutely. I let the lady shoot some 38s out my k frame the other day, she's never really shot before and she did well.

Thought it was guns and ammo but I can't find it. It was one of the big magazines. Ill try and find it tomorrow and post it again. I know a friend of mine has it book marked.

No worries.
I was just curious, like I said my experiences, granted its not too much, Taurus has been shitty.

I have one and it is pretty snappy. My wife didnt like it. She does like the S&W bodygaurd 380. She shoots well with it and like it. Comes with a laser for 399

one of the reasons I may get it simply the price. not too harsh of a price tag
Posted on 2/17/13 at 10:53 pm to LSUFan3434
He should let her keep that POS.

Wrong brand, wrong caliber, poor choice for a first gun.

My only hangup-there's no safety
Of course there's a safety, probably more than one, but they're internal and automatic. Don't pull the trigger, the weapon doesn't fire. That's the least of your concerns.
In most cases, for a female with little to no firearms experience, the correct first choice is in the range of revolvers, Smith and Wesson J-frame models, or Ruger 5-shot models such as SP101 or LCR.
However, if you wanted to get an automatic, this would not be a terrible option for the price. You must understand that there are limited cartridge loadings for .380, the available loadings tend to be expensive (relative to other centerfire cartridges), it is relatively underpowered compared to 9mm, and the pistols themselves tend to be finicky about what ammo they like.
One of my favorite pistols to shoot was a Walther PPK (which I never should have sold) in .380 - I also have a cheap, made-for-export Russian Makarov pistol that is a fairly nice shooter for the price.
Hip shoot- if this is the difference between her being armed and not being armed, get the pistol. You won't lose much value if you ultimately decide to upgrade to a Ruger LCP, one of the revolver choices above, or even a Kahr CW9, PM9 or similar subcompact pistol in full power 9mm.
Taurus is a bargain brand, but one of the better ones, if that makes sense.

Watch my video about buying your first gun. Even though this may not be your first gun, you need to hear some valuable information for your lady. It's a common misconception that women need tiny guns, especially pink ones.
