I need a tractor recommendation for a 5.5 acre piece of land

I'm buying some acreage and am trying to decide if the John Deere 2320 is enough for what I need to do ... a little mowing, moving some logs around, nothing heavy duty. Does anyone have any experience with one of these models?

I know of several people who have Kubota utility tractors and love them.

new holland tc 29,4wd, was a good one for me, although i had alot more acres.. it was great..

The Kubota is about $2K more than the Deere, a New Holland is just as much. I'm looking for something in the $12K range. John Deere has a good sale on right now.

All we fool with is John Deere and don't have anything bad to say about them really. Not familiar with that exact model though.
Depending on what you call "moving logs around," about a 30 horse 4x4 with a front end loader should suit your needs very well. It takes some arse to move logs. If you're talking about moving logs in the sense that I usually do it, I would look for something up in the 50 hp range.

I'm a Kubota guy but there is nothing wrong with a JD.
A few reccommendations:
Get no less than 30HP
Get a front end loader
Consider a belly mower if you want the wife to cut the lawn without bitching.

I'm getting a 5' finishing mower and a box blade for free along with it. I think the wife could handle the pull behind.

Used is a good way to go with tractors. Only problem is they hokd their value really well and you dont come out very far ahead ubless you get an old one.

I agree with this.

it might be because pow pow often bit off a little more than he could chew on it, but it just always seemed like something was way wrong with it. we got a light duty massey now and it is okay. i wish it was a bigger model, but it ain't bad for piddling.

We have always used strictly John Deere on our farm. But as hard as it is for me to say, my ex-brother-in-law had a Mahindra 4110 4wd. That tractor was dang well made and worked like a champ. There isn't a doubt in my mind for the money I would buy a Mahindra in a heartbeat

Aww hell, Maybe it was a lemon or he just did too much with the size like you said. I`ve never heard anyone complain about them.

We swapped from John Deere to Kubota years ago.
Best thing we ever did.

When I still lived in MS my neighbor had a Mahindra with the loader and I used it a couple times. I think it was a good machine for what it is. He liked it and used it quite a bit.

The main thing JD has going for them is the layout of the tractor. Everything is so well laid out and easy to use. No shift levers in between your legs, everything is low and on the side of the seat where it is easy to work. The seat (most important part of a tractor IMO) is comfortable, the clutch isn't so stiff that it wears your leg out. JD's are just more comfortable to work off of than anything else IMO.
I've pulled logs with a mahindra before and that thing was a donkey. I just didn't like the lever layout in the cab. If I was buying one though, it would probably be a mahindra because I can deal with being a little less comfortable for that price.
Massy also still makes some very good small tractors.

Mahindra is the old IH tractor I think. I realized Case and IH merged years ago.
We use to have a IH 424 which was a mule but it was made in England and was a 12 volt positive ground tractor, (2-6 volt batteries were used)
Everything was backwards. We used it to run/clean drains.
