Also great for putting the bucket low to keep stuff from stabbing into the grille and to keep you from bushhogging a stump or something.

I will never buy a tractor wout a FEL.

And for pulling them up. And for climbing on to cut high limbs.

I got a Kubota B2320 last year and its been great. I got the mid mount mower and its very nice, can get very close to things although the rear finish mower can back under tree limbs etc. A 5 ft rear finish mower will be pushing the 2320 especially if on an incline etc. A 4 footer is recommended for that size but the 5ft will work. One of the reasons I got the mid mount was could go to the 5 ft.

I have a bush hog, box blade, ratchet rake, and middle buster. Once you get a tractor then its all about what implement is next to buy. Hoping for a tiller now.

I looked at the JD, but liked the 3 range instead of just hi/low on the JD. JD was more expensive for me as well. Good tractors though.

We have a 75 hp Deutz-Allis. Talk about a tractor. I've been on JD, Massey, Kabota, and Ford. The Deutz blows them out of the water. Air-cooled engine that never gets hot. Its quiet. And I've almost gotten it weaned off the diesel. If you ever find one, I would recommend it.

For those recommending more horsepower, how much more fuel would I burn cutting 20 acres with a 40HP vs. a 30HP for example? I want all the HP I can afford, but I don't want to break the bank on diesel either.

I want to pull a 72" finishing mower. I believe a 30 HP up would do that (barely?). Will definitely want a loader, tiller, and auger. Later on I may add a backhoe.

I'm leaning toward a mid 30's Kubota 4x4 w/ HST. I've heard nothing but good things, and the JD dealer is about 20 minutes further away. Servicing proximity is key for me.

A 6' finishing mower will be a load on a 30 horse but it will probably handle it.

Youre not gonna bust the bank on diesel with something under 70 or 80 horse. A 40hp is going to strain less and you'll end up burning a little more fuel, but not much.

Eta: my personal recommendation is select the chassis you want and then get the biggest or 2nd biggest motor offered on that frame.

One area I cut I use my old Ford 2000 with a 7' bush hog. Fuel burn is about 10 gallons all day clipping which is about 30 ac.

Other tracks I used the old JD which is a 125 hp and a 12' batwing clipper.

Front end loaders are great to have. Wish I had one on my old 2000 ford.

To the OP. If you have the money, buy nothing less then a 30 hp tractor. You will thank me later. Look at old ford 2000 diesel tractors. Hell, you can get any part from Napa to rebuild them. One in very good shape that has been rebuilt with powersteering goes around $4,000-$4,500 if you shop around and take your time buying. They last 3 life times if you keep them serviced before having to rebuild them. Look for ones that were built in the mid 1970's.

Just remember you loose some horsepower with a hydro-stat drive vs a traditional tranny, not sure how much and they are probably getting better with technology, but there will be some loss.

At one point we were using our's daily. We'd dump a 5 gallon can of diesel in it about once every 2 months. You'll be surprised how effient they are.

That is impressive. My 60" Bad Boy ZTR burns that much cutting half as much land. And that's weekly cutting, not hogging.

I appreciate the help. It's hard to know what to believe when talking to salesmen.

I got a quote back on the 2320 for $16000 including tax. Is that a pretty fair deal?

First: Go check out Tractorbynet.com. It is a forum with owners of all brands. You can also see what others are paying for their machines.

Secondly: Take a look at the Bobcat and Kioti brands (they're really the same tractor). A lot of bang for the buck and you can probably get a 27-30 horse tractor for the same amount as the JD you are considering. I don't know what they are offering right now, but they usualy have pretty good deals (free loader/rebates, etc).
