What state has the most birds bagged PER HUNTER? I know Louisiana bags a shite ton of ducks, but we also have a shite ton of hunters.
That depends on what you want to look at: Per hunter per SEASON or per hunter per HUNT-DAY.
California has the highest per hunter per season with an average of 30.6 ducks per hunter over the 2012 season. Their hunters averaged 10.7 days afield for an average of 2.86 ducks per hunt-day.
Louisiana is second with 26.7 ducks per hunter per season. However, our hunters averaged only 8.8 days afield for an average of 3.03 ducks per hunter per hunt-day.
So for an entire SEASON, California kills the most ducks per hunter. But per HUNT-DAY, Louisiana kills more ducks per hunter.
Those 2 states have been 1-2 for the past few years. However, hunters in California have a 107-day season and a 7-bird daily bag limit. Just imagine how much higher we would be with 47 more days to hunt.
You can verify my data and get similar information for all states back to 1999 at: LINK

They do ...... but they kick everyone else's butt so completely when it comes to MALLARD harvest, that they don't care.

and we would be #1 in woodcock harvested per hunter and per hunter effort if folks would tell the truth..
but when the season went down to 45 days and the limit to 3...
most of the really good ones clammed up..

Those boys arent' sugarasses. Look at the duck call the hand in the picture has hanging around his neck, PS OLT and a DFB(olt copycat). If he knows how to use them Nico in for a real treat.
I understand mallards still come down here but not in forces like they had for a long time. Alse there are no woodcock on thistlewaite since they quit running cattle on it all the cane died off and its just palmettos. Arkansas plants rest areas next to their GTR which helps keep the birds in the area, LDWF does almost zero management for waterfowl just look at all the WMA's that are practically duckless. If LDWF would provide suitable habitat then the state would have better hunting as well as if baiting laws were modified

Yep. I can tell you, those boys know more about the elusive mallard hunting than most anybody on this board

I know its a money issue but damn, look at how much land the state owns up and down multiple rivers and how poorly they are setup for ducks. Seems like potential is there, especially how a lot of those places historically held huntable numbers of waterfowl
