I get not counting all those little stickers at the base some bucks have, but just cause that buck had his g2 and g3 fused you would still call him a 9?

if they share a common base, it would be a deduction.

I think thats his personal opinion. not sure. I am the same about not counting all stickers but I will count split tines

I just can't see how those are G2 and G3. All I see is a forked G2. The fork is low, but both "points" have the same base.

I'm talking counting points not inches

It depends a lot on where you hunt also. It would be useless for me to measure a deer I shoot behind the house

We count tines

bingo. Im not all about scoring and especially dont like deducting. if the deer grew it, add it to the score.

I know absolutely jack shite about scoring deer, it just looked like his other side had a G3 very close to the G2. Where I grew up, it would be embarrassing to score em.

me too. if I understand correctly, it would not be considered a scorable point and thus deducted. so you wouldn't count that point.

I'm on the same page with you though. I'm not big on scoring, but I'm trying to understand all of it.

Combination of being around lots of deer hunters, some who are obsessed with this, and watching trophy-type deer tv shows, Magazines etc.

BUT...the reason it bugs me that so many count everything is this: it's just not descriptive. It tells us nothing bout the deer. "Billy Joe-Jim killed a 14 point!". OK, what do we know? Not one damn thing. Might be a basket 6 with all kinds of crap around the bases plus a sticker or 4. If we are talking typical points-mainframe points, we know a great deal about that deer.

I'd claim it. Never measured a deer, don't really care. If it looks good drink a beer to it

thats why I'd think the one pictured (your thread) would be 9/10 because it looks more like that than an 8 IMO but I get it

points versus "typical Points" is a whole new debate. According to Boone & Crocket it is still considered a "point" or they wouldn't ask for measurements for it in there online calculator. How people describe a deer as being a mainframe 8 with a kicker, or a 9 point doesn't matter and is just a use of terminology to explain something. But a point is a point and the deer you posted is a 10 and however you want to describe the deer when talking makes no difference.
