The expansion of the bullet at that distance should be pretty large right?

Depending on the bullet, expansion would be determined by velocity. At 685 yards, its probably lost a ton of velocity. We dont know caliber so we cant really guess.

Lets assume he is using one of everyones favorite flat shooting deer rifle, a .270. Wouldnt that bullet pancake pretty good at 685 yards? Enough to where even an arse shot should lead to a found deer?

6.5 Creedmore, it wasn’t a perfect broadside shot so they are sure if he clipped him or what.

we didnt hear the caliber, but the velocity could've been greatly reduced.

KNowing the OP, it was probably a .223

685 yards and they couldn’t walk a yard closer?

Must have been a hunt where if you pull the trigger you pay full price.

Guide thought he would miss altogether probably.

You know a 1959 Gisbon Les Paul Standard can play the hell out of Jimmy Page's Solo in Hearbreaker and hooked up to the same amps it can sound the same. Using that train of thought your buddy should go plug in and start selling music.

Just because a gun can shoot a certain distance doesn't mean someone can shoot a gun that far.

To recap... your buddy took a NON broadside shot on a deer at 685 yards with a gun he has never shot... Do you even need to ask about ethics??

I shoot up to 1,300 yards with regularity and would never take that shot.

Your management buck troll was much better. Subtle, infuriating, it was fricking art.

This is stupid, try again.

He says the guide spotted a 170 class deer at 685 yards.
if I was told that my shot would be 400-700 yds, I’d simply stay around the camp fire drinking and enjoying life and the outdoors.
