I completely disagree. I was in a club that was a a dictatorship and it was smooth. You mess up, the rules committee reviews it tells the pres/vice pres what they suggest. The pres has the final say. There is no whining, crying, or cliques.

Now I am a vp of another club and we have rules close to the old club we were in. no rules committee , I tell the pres what I think and he and I determine what should be done. He has the final say.

20 years later there are no issues

What kind of rules do you have at your camp?
Straight forward

in stand time (morning/evening)

If you have to go by someone 30 minutes before official sunrise, if not no specific time

330pm if you have to go by someone

out of stand time (morning/evening)

if you have to go by someone 930 am and 30 minutes after official sunset

size of deer taken
2 per membership 3 1/2 year old or 110 B&C Gross or If you are willing to pay for a shoulder mount you can shoot it. If not you can pay that money to the club (my rule)

Unlimited does

Kids under 18 and not in college can shoot 1 buck of their choice per year and it does not count against the member.

guest hunts

$30 per day unlimited number of guests. Old club

New club $200 non immediate family guest button unlimited

private stand placement
We have our property broken into 3rds (3 members) and I hunt mine, they hunt theirs.

We used to have several stands placed on the property and we drew to see who hunts where. Low number goes first. Most of the time we didn't even draw.

As we add property and members this will change. It will be 2 claim stands per membership. They must be 400 yards away from another member and you can have Satellite stands no farther than 250 yards from your claim. However if you go towards another member you must have their permission in writing and filed with the president before the season.

What are y'all going to do about cull bucks? That's been an issue in every club I've been in. I'm for shooting culls because you don't want trash breeding your does. I was in a club last year and I shot a cull buck he was a 5 point weighed 160 and was aged by our taxidermist at 3 and a half years old.

My vote would be they go the way of stray dogs.

We will have to come up with something I have seen some on cameras, just never on the stand.

Be nice and respectful of others
If you use it up, replace it.
If you open it, close it.
If you turn it on, turn it off.
If you unlock it, lock it.
If you break it, fix it
If you can't fix it, replace it.
If you borrow it, return it.
If you use it, don't abuse it
If you make a mess, clean it up.
If you move it, put it back.
If you don't know how to operate it, leave it alone.
If it belongs to somebody else, ask permission to use it.
If it doesn't concern you, don't mess with it.
Pretty basic stuff for 9 members (most don't hunt much) on 500 acres

If it works for them great. Everyone knows where they stand and if they don't like it find somewhere else to hunt. To me it is a little too stringent but I'm not in their club. Thanks for comments and suggestions everyone I'm bowing out before this becomes a my club is better than your club because________________.

That's where the 3 1/2 yo come in. If he's 3 1/2 or older and scores 60 or he's 3 1/2 or older and scores 200 he's legal.

The goal is to shoot mature bucks. I could careless about B&C score. I shot a 3 1/2 year old on Sunday rough scored him at 114 4/8 gross. Below is the pic. Now he may not be a trophy on the O.T. but, he's a damn fine buck to me.

the great thing about private leases is just that, they are private

if you do not like the rules, you do not have to hunt that lease

I couldn't do that. That just looks far too stress inducing to me. I'd have to bring a rule book to my stand.

We tell everyone that joins, this club is not for everyone and you are free to leave at any point. No hard feeling and/or ill will. We are fair and want everyone to have a good time.

Trust me I hate having a 6 page rule book. That's why we started our own thing. We have 3 of us that hunt and will probably increase 2 or 3 next year with people I've known for years and feel the same about hunting as we do.

I'm not qualified to judge the age and score of a deer on the hoof.

Not everyone grew up in a place like ours.
Most of the members of the club, at present time, grew up in the club and looked up to those that came before them. The ones that didn't grow up in the club were carefully selected.
We are pretty much still a family club (in one sense or another).

neither can they

it is just an arbitrary rule to say "don't shoot small bucks"
