My boots were black, stiff and cold. THe smallest hole in them was at the top.
Also, has anyone mentioned Baker stands, until someoone shares an experience hanging on a side of a tree with one of those deathtraps, they havent lived....poor, rich, commited, or otherwise you had to be half nuts.

My dad had a Baker but was a little heavy for it so he gave it to me. I used to climb that thing with no safety belt and shitty bungees strapped to shitty rubber boots. I never fell all the way to the ground, but slipped down the trunk more than once. The hand climber sucked so bad I bear hugged the tree and just used the bottom part. Cotton long johns, cotton GI Joe style camo pants and Vietnam style camo jacket/shirt and an iron-sighted 30-30 was how I rolled in the 80s.
I considered that stuff a huge improvement over sitting on a log, with a 16 gauge wearing blue jeans and flannel.
This year I sat in an elevated plywood blind over a solar powered barrel of corn in a pine plantation with a scoped 270, a heater, high tech base layers, mossy oak cammo, and an I-Phone and saw more deer than I've ever seen.
I enjoyed the hell out of every day in the woods no matter what equipment was involved.
