The bears were here naturally
That argument is ridiculous from a hunter

I don't know why you would even say this. Have you eaten bear meat? Do you know anyone who has eaten bear meat?
I have...friend shot a bear in Maine years ago and gave me a roast. Because I wanted to get the true flavor I just put some salt and pepper on it and baked it. The meat was very good. Unfortunately bear meat often (I'm told more times than not) carries the Trichinae parasite and must be cooked to 152 for a set time or frozen to certain temperatures for a pre-determined amount of time.

So does pork, but I got no problem cooking up a good pork roast.

I had a cub angrily charge me then stop and start playing. Then he started charging me again only to stop and start playing again. It turns out it was a bipolar bear.

pig problem too.
I would much rather have a 'pig' problem then a black bear problem. You can rig up a feeder so the pigs don't destroy it and you can also shoot the pigs, not really a problem to me.

So does pork

This may have changed, especially since how large the NELA population has gotten. But originally there was going to have to be a certain percentage of cross breeding between the north and south population group.
That was part of the delisting criteria.

I was told the main reason you don’t see a season is the bleeding heart woman who was in control of the bear section of LDWF. She looks at them as pets and not actual wildlife that may/may not need to be managed through harvesting. We will probably never get accurate info that will lead to hunting as long as that is the mindset.
I always heard that as well, but she was on the LA Bowhunter Podcast last year. After listening to that episode, I didn't get that impression at all. Could have just been her putting on a show, but she didn't give an indication of opposing a season.

Why not? Bear meat was much preferred to venison on the frontier. It's very good.

Only bear I’ve ever eaten was nasty and stringy, like having mouth full of rubber bands.Friend killed it in Canada.
When I went to Alaska I talked to hunters up there, they said the best eating bears were spring bears, shortly after they come out of hibernation.
I’m of the opinion we don’t need bears in Louisiana, they are a nuisance.Let them be in the wilderness. They are really a problem where people have a hog problem.I know a guy in club close to Montgomery that is overrun with hogs. They try to trap them but bear eats the bait for the hogs.

Have hunters lost the ability to harvest a deer without putting corn out?
I think the lack of public land in the East means most people are hunting in stands over food.
I've never done it, I think I would be bored to tears. Hunting to me has a stalking element. But, its all some people get to do, so I'm not gonna diss it.
I'd rather watch a bear than shoot a deer. They are amazing creatures.

Bears occured naturally here. Man moved into their living room, and are trying to evict the bear. I say get rid of man.

Even when it comes time to take out a few, it will not be a wide open season.
Probably just a few control hunters, screened and approved.
Joe Blow will never hunt them.

That's not hunting, it's a means to an end.
Like salmon snaggers. They can't fish so they resort to snagging.
I don't care but don't call yourself a hunter if you're hunting over a corn pile.
Eta....changed food to corn pile.
If you find a natural food source that helps you bag an animal that's just being smart.

So I guess you are talking about (corn fields, alfalfa fields in Montana where there is no green grass and water holes in Utah where their is no water) when you say “hunting over food”
Always amazed how people love to get on a high horse and decide what they think “hunting and fishing” is or is not!!

Always watch people’s actions, not what they say. This was from people who had interactions with her regarding black bear.

You must hunt over a corn pile.
Jimmies rustled!

Touché
Not not really but I’m guessing I rustled yours based on your first reply that just stated I had a stoopid response.
But just go ahead and get back on that high horse.

different types/ways of hunting are harder/take more skill than others. Just like bream/sacalait fishing are tougher and take more skill than bass fishing.

Uh...no.
Salmon snaggers that I'm seeing 3-4 days a week don't rustle my jimmies so why would a complete stranger on a message board do it to me?

It was a stooopid response.
