I'm a lefty. Never had any trouble with safety. Would just click off, when the ducks were working the pond, or as I raised gun up. My labs knew the sound of safety clicking off meant look up and get ready.

Always unload your guns! Just the other day I was getting out of the shooting house in the rain (yes gun was unloaded). I was totally prepared for it to be slipper and still slipped and if not for pulling off the most athletic move I’ve done in years and pulling a calf muscle in the process I would have absolutely busted my arse with rifle hanging on my shoulder. You can be totally prepared for something to happen and it still happen.

Not sure I would call this a freak accident. I would call a barrel exploding a freak accident, but I would call something like this a preventable accident. When you leave the opportunity for this to happen in play by not unloading your gun, it can not be considered an entirely unexpected outcome. obviously a very low probability but you cant say there was almost no way it could happen.

jesus christ. Saw this in the movie the plague dogs
dogs were so excited that someone was being nice to them that a foot caught the trigger and the hunter had the gun propped up towards his face while he was giving them pets.
if you aren't gonna unload it at least go condition 3. sympathy for this guy and his family.

quote:
people never used the safeties on their guns. I would mention it and their excuse would be they didn’t want to be fumbling with a safety if a deer or rabbit ran in front of them.
Holy crap! Good choice discontinuing association with them.

"In the late 70's, my uncle was going to a duck pond behind boutte in the swamp. 12 year old kid used the but of a loaded shotgun to push a raccoon away from the pirogue . The raccoon pulled the trigger and kid died on way to hospital"
I wonder if this is the same story that happened to a lady's son that my aunt use to work for. His daddy was a judge in St. James Parish. The only difference I heard was the coon was in a trap.
