I cleaned and filled my feeders just yesterday here in central MS. I have seen very few birds since the spring. Excited to see them return!

My feeder has been half full for a couple of weeks, should I dump it and put fresh? Does the sugar water spoil, wouldn’t want to make anyone sick.

In this heat I just make enough to last about 4 days as I’ve read it starts to spoil/ferment

What kind are you seeing. I usually get a few Rufous this time of year.

I thought my hummingbird food just evaporated from feeder due to heat.

I have several feeders around my garden, plus quite a few flowers they enjoy. I was working out there earlier today and had half a dozen buzzing me and chirping up a storm. I love those little bastards.

We have found the single cylinder feeders are most desirable by them.

We had a small female show up and actually hovered towards us when the feeder was empty. My wife went and bought some juice. She has been back multiple times. We had around 8 last year in NELA too

Had a 4 bird battle royale take place at one of my feeders yesterday with 2 other birds on other feeders at the same time.

It’s happening in NWLA.

I told my wife we need another. When 8 are flying around one feeder, it gets hectic.

My #s really went up when I went from 1 feeder to 4 feeders. It's not unusual to see 30-40 hummers at the feeders when the migration in my area is at the peak.

We have 3 species here (UT),

rufous

Black chinned

and Broadtails.

They've been really active here the past 2-3 days and I expect well lose them to Mexico within the next week.

Only have noted the Ruby-Throated species in recent years. I did see one Rufous in the Lake Charles area and that was last December.
