One of the hardest things I've ever done was putting down my Newfoundland. Awful.

Prayers for you and your family.

Very sorry to hear especially w a 3 yr old dog way to young. I'm on my 4th lab and had a springer before that as a kid. Its never easy. I suggest getting another dog soon, it takes some of the sting out.

I had him cremated since I didn't want to dig a hole for a 100 lb lab. I'd recommend burying her yourself if possible.

Yeah I am going back and forth on this. We are living in another state for the project I am working on, not quite sure I want to bury her in a state we don't really consider home.

This is one of the part that kills me. I feel like we are able to communicate so well on so many things but I just don't have a way to tell her what's happening to her.

I feel like I have been hit by a freight train. I can remember even the day I picked her up that this day would one day come and it would be terrible, but I never would have imagined god would steal my girl away from me like this at such a young age. Sure doesn’t seem fair. Maybe god just needed a better bird dog.

Man, this part got me.... good luck man, I truly feel for you, I am not looking forward to that day...prayers sent up

Similar reason I ultimately ended up doing it in addition to how big of a hole he'd need. Probably won't be living in my current home much longer.

Went through the same thing with my greyhound . Took her to the vet and had to put her to sleep . I was upset and carried her out to put her in my truck . A man had blocked me in and I kind of lost it . Oops , I loved that dog . She was an adopted racing dog . Rip Jim b rocking robin .

I mean he is right.. its tough, i get it. I lost my 2 14yr old labs within a month of each other 3 years ago. Cried like a baby. But in the end, it could be worse. I have kids and family, i will never act like losing a dog is the same

I have buried a dog but had three creamated. My choice is cremation and i always sprinkle some of the dog at a good hunting spot or bury the ashes at the spot.

We do not deserve dogs.

Sorry for Nellies illness, at least her life was with a family who loved her.

why do you have to be such an a-hole pretty much all the time?

Did your mommy not hug you enough as a child?

You suck, man! That's all I can say. I hope to God I don't actually know you behind your screen name. Hopefully you do not have kids.

Spend as much time as you can with them, right up to the end. I read an interview with a vet one time who told of the saddest thing they regularly experienced. It was people who had reached the point that they had to put their dog to sleep. They came to the vet office, and just handed their dog off to the vet to take it to a back room by itself. The dog, already on deaths door or otherwise in pain, was now by itself in a foreign place with no one it has known or loved, on a cold metal table. The vet talked about how sad these dogs seemed to be of spending their final moments alone with a stranger. Moral being, as hard as it will be, if you have the chance, stay with your dog until the end. They will at least pass on knowing you are there right next to them, the same way they have been since day one. I most certainly will be holding my girl close until the end.

I try to tell this to as many people as I can. Staying with our 14 year old lab was the hardest thing I've ever done, and I wouldn't do it any different.

He gave us so many good years, I can't imagine not being there for him in that moment.

It's a rarity for someone to post something that legitimately makes me want to beat their arse.

Congrats to you.

I'm almost convinced he's a troll after that hearing protection thread. Nobody is that angry irl and if they are, they have serious issues. This is another case of that. He could have kept scrolling without saying anything...

Lost my Black Lab this year to cancer. Hugs to you and your dog. I don't think I will ever get over it.
