How old? To shoot or not to shoot?

Need help from my fellow OBer’s. How old do you think these bucks are? Newer to hunting and secured some private land to hunt on about a month ago. Not good at aging deer yet. Front buck looks younger than back buck to me. Just seeing what you more experienced hunters thought. East Texas area (Harrison County).

If you are new to hunting shoot what makes you happy for now. As you learn more about deer and deer hunting establish what your personal rules are and go from there.
The deer looking at the camera isn't really easy to age you can't see enough of his body. The one in the back looks older but one picture of a deer can lie to you I like to have several to make a decision if possible.
At the end of the day in your shoes both of those bucks would likely end up on your all shoot them if they make you happy.

280 acres total. 3 hunters on lease. Each of us have have a 70 acre tract to hunt and we have about 70 acre sanctuary. Plan on keeping this spot for as long as possible. Have it for 3 years right now. All Pine Forest

If you get the opportunity to shoot them and don't, I would bet all my money no one else is going to let them walk for you to have the opportunity again.

If you choose not to shoot and want these deer to grow, you better make sure the other guys dont shoot as well.

I’d bet those deer are 3 years old. The pics I’m getting if 4 and 5 year olds just south of you in Panola co are already thick in the necks and large bodied.

What are the lease rules and goals? What are your goals? Have you killed bucks as big as these yet?

No lease rules. Land was secured by my golfing buddy two years ago on a 5 year contract. He already has 300 acres next to secured. Leased to 3 other hunters. This is my 3rd year deer hunting. Have always hunted public land in Bodcau, so this is a new experience for me. His only rule is to be selective with my tags as far as quality harvesting. Basically don’t shoot the first doe that steps out. Got the spot because last guy harvested multiple young deer last year knowing there were more mature specimens around. Would like to try to improve the quality of our herd, but I don’t think that is going to be easily attainable. We have human beings involved.

My best advice to you is shoot what would make your trigger finger itch. You're not on a high fence ranch, nor or you on a huge block of like minded or regulated hunting acres, like a big MLD unit. Deer have a tough life, and there's no guarantee that they will live to next season. Hell, there's no guarantee you'll ever lay eyes on these two deer.
Now, if you were on a big block of regulated hunting lands, I'd say to pass on the front deer and consider the back deer. On a high fence, you let both of those walk.

Fantastic deer but look to be 3.5 from the pics sent. Certainly not older than 4.5. Hard to pass deer with racks like that but next year, if they make it, will be absolute studs

I am self professed terrible at this game, but they both look youngish.
That said, I shoot either one of them.
Unless my kid is with me, and the time that I spend pushing him down and stealing his rifle would probably make me shoot the second one that stepped out.

3.5 don't shoot. Let is ride 2 years from now. I doubt your buddies will if they have the same questions. I'd talk to them about it and get confirmation. If your all on board, then they could be special a few years from now. Of course getting them to daylight will be infinitely more difficult.

Id say 3.5 Personally id give them more time. They will explode in the next 1.5 years. However, they are both beautiful now and taking either one would be a thrill. You have to decide what your hunting goals are.
