As early as Tuesday through the weekend?

Sitting at my brothers in WLA right now plotting our trips.

Have a camp in a Grand Isle so depending on surge we should be able to get in there sometime Wednesday, possibly Tuesday but not likely.

I think Tuesday afternoon- Wednesday we’ll fish SWLA and fish Grand Isle Wednesday afternoon - Tuesday of the following week.

We’ve had some epic trips after tropical storms and hurricanes since we were younger. I’m talking some magical fishing trips.

May not make it offshore even on our big boat, we’ll see what the wind is doing but we are going to run the hell out of my brothers or my inshore boat.

I do want to warn surf fisherman to not screw around after these storms. Usually bad rips up to 48-72 hours after storm.

Waiting on someone to send some pics of our place. Hoping this storm will blow out here quick like they’re predicting. Once on the other side of the storm those north winds will push the surf and all that other water out to sea quick

We have a camp rented in grand isle from Thursday through Friday. Hoping you are correct and we don’t have to reschedule. We have always had our best trips after big storms

Should definitely be a good weekend inshore and we’ll likely run offshore Friday and Sunday. Just gotta watch what the wind actually does. For Grand Isle and the SE part of the state it looks like the wind will be blowing NNE, NE, Thursday through Saturday night then shif SE Sunday.

Be careful about going offshore when you go Thursday. The surf may be flat with the wind coming out of the north but if it’s blowing pretty hard out of the north those seas can get pretty high the further you go offshore.

If you no experience going offshore in your bay boat, I’d advise you not push it too far or go offshore at all. It get hairy quick.

If the conditions are really good and all your equipment is working, you’re prepared and have a fishing buddy with you you could run a few miles out in your bay boat and try the rigs closer in around Fourchon and Grand Isle. Possibly catch some cobia at 1 mile out or even different grouper, snapper species at 3-6 miles.

I used to run offshore many times in my bay boat and know several people who still do but conditions better be perfect. Luckily me and my brothers have a good offshore boat we use when we want to go. I’ll run a few miles out in my bay boat every so often but I’ve had a lot of experience. Again, just because you have no experience, I don’t think you should run offshore. I actually wouldn’t recommend anyone going too far offshore in a bay boat.

Good luck if y’all get to go and be safe.

That’ll be fun. Be sure to get you plenty of crabbing stuff since you got the kids coming. Trot line string, a couple drop nets maybe. We had a blast a few weeks ago with my nephews and caught a few dozen crabs even though we were mainly fishing.

We caught a bunch of throwback specks and a few white trout on artificials but we caught some really good keepers live cocahos. I was fishing them on the bottom.

With that being 3 -4 weeks ago I’m sure the numbers and better sizes are cruising the beach. Will have to see what all the storm pushed in.

If you want to catch some bull reds or play around with some jacks, catch you some big mullet in your cast net and cut them up for bait. I want to say 2 or 3 years ago after a smaller storm like this the bait shops either weren’t open or wasn’t selling bait at the time. Luckily we always keep a few cast nets around.

ETA: I’d definitely bring a cast net if you have one. Bait shops may open up Wednesday or Thursday or it may not be until Saturday.

Thanks for the tips. Probably won't go offshore just yet. I haven't researched enough where to go. Just want to be ready for when I do catch some real nice conditions.

Good deal. Fish grand isle a lot, but never really went and strictly surf fished. Do I have to fish the rocks or can they be caught anywhere along the beach? Our camp is about a half mile before the rocks. The few times I have surf fished I have always fished the rocks. Not wanting to bring all the kids and stuff that far if can be avoided. All crab gear will be in hand as well

You do not have to fish the rocks. The rocks are great but during the summertime you can just about fish anywhere on the island or Elmers and catch fish. Those trout usually school all up and down the island in the summer months.

The storm will have the beach looking different. Look for oyster shells old or newer washed up on the beach. Anywhere you have an oyster reef is a good spot.

Like I said the beach will have changed from the storm. Look for little points as well

Thanks for the tips. We usually fish fourchon and not grand isle to avoid the crowds. Plan to fish the same as we do there. Top water early in the morning then plastics under corks the rest of the day

Unfortunately I don’t think you can fish Fourchon without getting there by boat.

I haven’t driven a vehicle to Fourchon in a while but I know for several years it was blocked off.

The inshore fishing we’ll be doing will actually be along the Fourchon surf from boat. Go to Elmers if they have it open.

You’re right about the summer crowds. We’ve fished there all our life and know the area so well but we’ve been talking selling our camp and getting place around Venice, possibly Cocodrie Haven’t made up our minds love fishing around Grand Isle and have excellent trips but on a normal summer (no corona) there’s fricking tournaments from a week or 2 before Memorial Day to several weeks after Labor Day.

We are heading to GI Friday also. Clean up at the camp and go offshore Saturday. The weather offshore looks great. Hopefully the water is somewhat clean. We'll be able to see satellite pictures probably starting tomorrow once the storm moves out for watercolor. There shouldn't be much damage besides some of the beach washed out. I don't think they ever lost power. I heard Sand Dollar had about 2 inches in the store yesterday but they'll have that cleaned out quick and open before the weekend.
