It happens but they also want a police report, so there’s two felonies.
Also surprising that floater policies (guns, jewelry) are the most profitable line of business for insurance companies. I have only seen one claim (lost Rolex) in 20+ years and the guy had it underinsured.

Yep. I’ve seen a few where passengers are crushed by the overhead cage/cab

26 years in the insurance industry here, but if you think that little $300/ year policy is going to keep you from getting sued, go right ahead. Maybe it will help you sleep better, but if you kill someone or someone dies on you atv, guess what happens? You’re up shite creek

of course he would get sued along with his insurance... but he has done more than most by getting it insured and contained in his umbrella.
I look at insurance as prepaid legal. if you dont prepay, you will damn sure wish you did once the 3-500 per hour lawyer bills start rolling in.

I'm confused who you're responding to here. The idea that insurance "keeps you from getting sued" is a complete misunderstanding of how insurance works and I don't think anybody has made that comment in this thread.
You get sued, you tender the claim to your carrier, and your carrier defends and indemnifies you. That's how insurance works. Louisiana is a direct action state so there is a right of action directly against a carrier, but it's pretty rare that the insured isn't named alongside the carrier.
If Tigerpaw has full coverage (liability, collision, and comprehensive) on his SXS, and someone gets hurt on his SXS, he would tender that claim to his carrier. The carrier would be obligated to defend the claim in good faith and pay up to limits in the event of a liability determination. If the damages exceed the carrier's limit, then his umbrella policy should kick in to cover the excess.
So no, a "little $300/year policy" is not going to keep you from getting sued, but it provides defense and indemnity to you in the event you do get sued, which is the whole point.

Depends on how many were totaled in your area.
The most expensive one I ever had insured was a pioneer 500. The cheapest side by side you can buy.
All 1000s have been considerably less than 60 a month. That little 500 was more than 100.
I expect the northstar is going to be higher, but who knows.

False, the only person they don't cover is you.

Maybe if I planned on totaling mine, but I don’t plan on sinking it or wrecking it into a tree at 70mph so I feel like my money would be better spent on something other than insurance.
One of the most targeted items in the south for a thief. $85 seems cheap when you are sitting there with nothing to ride on.

Zero dollars a month, because I'm poor and don't have the money to buy a side by side to begin with. I just do it the old fashioned way and either quarter the animal in the woods or use my cart to drag them out.

Wouldn’t my homeowner’s policy cover it if they break into my shop and manage to find my key and my kill switch and defeat my cameras and my hidden air tag?

Don’t think it works like that, my basic understanding is homeowners will not cover an item that can be covered by an individual policy, I realize that there are some technical issues with that statement that make it untrue but a good quick rule of thumb.

Okay, maybe you are right , it won’t keep me from getting sued, but will pay for my defense as well as damages up to policy limits, do you disagree with that?

My policy covers “contents” but doesn’t specify or exclude anything like that. I’m sure they’d try to screw me though.

Very correct Baw, three wheelers were once covered under HO policies but the theft and liability claims were staggering.
Side note, you don’t want the liability tied to your HO policy for any toy in todays climate of non-renewals.

Vehicles are not considered contents.
Even tractors get really gray really fast on coverage.

Typically policy says: equipment used to service property with specific HP limits. “All” ask if home is located on farm or over specific # of acres.
All of the ambiguity can be eliminated by calling your agent or reviewing policies with them in person.
There really isn’t any gray area in insurance contracts.

"Vital to the upkeep of the property" is a pretty fricking ambiguous sentence.
And the reason I will never insure anything with farm burea ever again.

Standard Texas HO policy has an exclusion for “Land Conveyance Vehicles”.
I found out the hard way what that means. Have carried separate policies for bikes ever since.
I told that story to a guy and he said “my HO policy covers everything”. 6 months later his bike was stolen. HO denied the claim…duh!
