We've all been there many times. Great location overlooking a food plot. Deer setup in front of you in the later afternoon. Evening comes and it's time to get down, but you don't want to spook the deer out since this could result in more nocturnal behavior for that plot (or in general).

How do y'all get in and out of your stands without blowing the deer out of there? Or if you do spook them, is there a particular way in which you do so to increase the likelihood that they'll return, such as with a flashlight, coyote call etc? I'm already planning on moving the stands off the plots some to increase concealment. I'm also planning to have open trail on the backside of the stands that approach from off the plot as best as possible.

Just curious to see if there's anything I haven't thought of. Our plots are a quarter acre to two acres in size.

How is getting there early going to help him not spook deer out the plot at dark?

It's not always possible but in ideal situation I like to build my plots in front of the stand and usually dont start planting until im 30 yards or so from the stand that way the deer aren't on top of me when i get there or leave so I can open the door and climb down without spooking them then turn on my light when im on my trail away from the plot, and I like to have a trail cut to approach from the back of my stand. I hate plots that you have to walk through to get to the stand. Now this is based on hunting a box stand and having an area where this is possible which is not always the case but when i've been able to do this i've spooked very few deer with this set up.

I've done the flashlight thing before. Sometimes it works. but I've also had them sit and stare at me for 30 minutes. Hopefully I can get the setup good enough to avoid having to push them on purpose.

Start barking like a dog. I like to "yooouuuuuwwwwwl" like a 12" beagle.

I usually sneak out, and wont use my light until I'm a little away from the stand/field. We do have a couple of fields I can't do that, so I do a dog bark, and that usually will do it. I find if that doesn't work it is due to the deer being young.

you are going to have to get on all fours and creep out

deer know humans are bipedal

or get a costume to wear in and out the stand

like a bear or a chicken

Yeah surprised chicken suit wasn’t the first response. We keep extras at the camp house just for this. Pretty common practice.

I usually pee out of the stand. If that don’t scare em off I’ll fire a shot or 2 into the ground

If it’s just does or spikes and shite I just spook them. Those dumbasses come right back

If it’s possible to move your stands far enough away from the plots as to come and go without spooking them at all is what I’ve learned to do. They used to stare me down when my stands were close, now they don’t even look in my direction.

Set up so the deer are not on top of you - 150-200 + yds. walk instead of ride.

Fire two shotgun blasts into the air from your double barrel shotgun so the deer think you’re Mrs. Biden. Then they know for sure you’re not a threat and your gun is empty.

Politely ask them to leave so you can get down in peace.

Usually I've found if you sit until black dark you can get down and they don't spook as bad.

It’s all about set up.. set up a hstand so u can come in from a way where u do not have to walk through the plot to get there. I can get in and out most all my stands and deer never know I was there. Other than wind direction This is probably the next most important thing to hunting deer.

If I'm at the camp, I'll try to find someone that's hunting in the same area and see if they will drive into the plot on their way out. At the house, I'll text the wife to come pick me up in the Ranger.
