I'm 25 and I really like hunting of all kinds however my dad was not a hunter so I never picked up anything from him. A lot of what I've learned and done was self taught or from friends. I want a place to hunt deer and duck that I can go to consistently and bring my son who is on the way.

Where did you find your hunting spots? Already in the family or friends were apart of a lease or had a honey hole?
Whats the best way for me to find my spots?

Basically. Most places are going to be 5,000K for one, four-man blind. Occasionally, you can find a place that has multiple blinds on a single tract for lease.

Keep in mind that people don't give up good hunting spots so if its open, there is probably a reason.

Yes. Find some sucker that posts all his pics on Instagram and find out where he hunts Most of people that do it are pretty stupid and will tell you the exact location. If that doesn’t work, look at their metadata from the pics and get the location.

A good example would be the people that can’t keep their mouth shut about Venice in the other thread. Go find where they hunt, and find the owner/lessor and offer him more money than the others.

Or you could just boom scout

Sit in the parking lot of public place and listen for shooting. Find where shots are coming from and then beat those people there the next day.

You gotta to keep watching all the time for something to come up. Connect through family mutual acquaintances, and let them know you're looking for a spot. Get on tax assessor site on look at potential properties that may not be leased. You gotta open up the wallet, and expect to drive.

I pay attention to social media and select the public land I hunt accordingly.

Blind on a public lake I had been eyeing. Some old farts had it and died off so I cisarowed it or whatever you call it. Easy peasy.

Inherited land in 4 parishes. Since I don’t get hunt them regularly I let my uncle, aunt, their daughter, and son in law hunt with the understanding that when I’m off and up that way I get to hunt whatever stand I want to which isn’t very offer.

They don’t shoot anything under 8 points unless it’s the last week or so but they usually have all their tags filled by mid December except for a couple which the use to only hunt wall hangers

Probably leasing. I'm currently trying to find one myself but it seems that they are not cheap. Louisiana does have a lot of good public spots to hunt but you almost have to be a local to that area to really find out where to go. What part of the state are you looking at? A friend of mine has a family farm in Palmetto and a few years back they were leasing out but idk if they still do. That being said I'm sure there are farmers that lease out some flooded area every year.

Edit: Being a young guy, you may want to debate on whether it would be better to put that money up and eventually buy some land somewhere of your own to hunt and just hunt public land in the meantime. That is my current dilemma. But I get the wanting to hunt with your son thing, thats special so maybe leasing is best for now.

Don’t rush into anything. There are plenty of other opportunities you can take advantage of before dropping a bunch of money on a lease to not kill anything. Sounds like you have a kid on the way. You need to ask yourself how often you are going to be hunting over the next couple of years with a toddler. If less that 10 or so times you’ll get more for your money making a few guided trips a year.

Long term, I would look at buying a piece of property if you can swing it.

This.

If you have one on the way you will be spending way more time keeping momma happy. I would buy a couple 3 day pay hunts and if you need to get out for a day go check out some public land.

Network. If you meet a guy ask how his hunting season went, eventually someone will ask you to tag along to their place. Talk to everyone there and be the best guest... show up with tons of booze, food, and do all the chores. You will be the perfect member and someone will ask you to join in.

You do realize there is over 150,000 acres of public land in Venice to hunt... So even if you find they spot, you can't buy it...

Hunting apps that identify landowners of parcels. Then, call and start a conversation. You may get an abrupt “No”, but yet again you may get someone that’s interested in leasing but never advertised. And, you may get the occasional landowner that says yes, bow hunt only, and just bring a signed Hunters Agreement.
