Used to have few near lake Decade.Wounded a ringneck and as it was swimming away an otter hit it like a bass hitting a topwater bait.Drug it to shore and disappeared in the grass where I'm sure it consumed it.

I had one come jogging by my stand one day and I wasn't hunting very close to water.

I would love some otters for my pond. Bring them to me, $$?

Why would you shoot an otter?
First, they kill all the turtles. This is not necessarily a bad thing if you aren't planning on eating them. You get to find the empty shells lined up on the side of the pond.
Next they start killing the nice fat catfish you have been feeding. Again, you get to find skeletal remains on the side of the pond.
After they have eaten all the catfish, they start on the other fish. More fish skeletons!
Meanwhile, they are digging a nice den into the side of your levee. At some point in time that portion of the levee will collapse into the den. Luckily, it usually won't breach the whole levee but it gives you several days worth of work trying to patch the levee.
But other than that, I see no reason why anyone would shoot an otter. I guess you could wait until they eat everything and move on to someone else's pond.
I love to see them playing around though.

So, there was another one hit on Bluebonnet near the entrance to the Preserve at Harveston.

A few summers ago I was drinking coffee in the morning on my back porch. One came into my yard and crawled up on my deck. I live near a swamp in Mandeville. It caught me off guard because I didn't think one would visit at 630 in the morning in the middle of the neighborhood. Cool looking animal.

River otters. They will clean your pond out in a sec.
