Anyone ever tried using hotdog pieces as fishing bait? If so, did you catch anything?
I was just trying it out; didn't catch anything. Looks like it's about to storm, so I didn't get to fish for very long.

We used to catch snapping turtles on them. I think we caught bass by accident a time or two.

Plenty of catfish, and some turtles. I used to carry a cheap greasy off brand slimjim in the tackle box to use as bait when fishing was tough. You could always catch a mudcat or two.

I didn't have any shrimp or other baits so I'm glad I wasn't throwing a useless hook on the water

I've caught fish on a plain arbereden (gold crappie) hook jigged off the dock, a hook with a piece of shiny gum wrapper on it (MacGyver style), and many times on a plain hook with a 4" piece of bank grass rigged to look like a grass hopper.
Got to get creative.

I've baited trot lines, yo-yo's and jugs with them, and had good success. I buy the cheapest ones I can find, slice them up, and put them in a ziploc with some minced garlic. Let that "cure" in the sun a little while, then it's ready for a hook.

I think anyone who has ever fished has used a hotdog for bait at least once.

Same here.......no garlic though.
a bag of hotdogs out in the sun for 1-2 days kills the gar and the catfish on jug lines.
