I'd be more pissed about him coming on my property than anything else.

I've had some times when I've had my tags on me, but my pen doesn't work.

First year of the tagging system being implemented, some guys in Maurepas WMA got tickets for not having pens. Or so I was told. I was also told that parking on the interstate will get you a ticket but lots still do it. Is it a ploy to keep others from hunting it????

Lesson learned by the op

However, we have been in the tagging system for several years now. It's nothing new and listening to half these responses is why we can't have anything nice in lousiana

Yeah, if that happened, it's because the agent was an arse.

Yeah, because you can't park on the interstate. That's not a wildlife regulation, it's a law. And people do get tickets for it. But people still do it.

So if you had walked back and got the permit before moving it, just let lie there until retrieving tag, would you have been ok?

What's the law?

I think a regular cop will give you a ticket for that one.

You can not move the deer until a tag is placed on the animal.

But you are supposed to have the tags on you at all times while hunting.
It states that "tags must be in possession when hunting deer"

But no, it is not against the law to not have a pen on you

I hunt with a guy that was stopped by a warden and was told that he "could" have written a ticket because he did not have a pen on him. My friend had also killed 1 deer this year and had used the tag closest to the bottom of his license so he wouldn't have to tear his whole license in half. The warden also told him he could write him a ticket for that because the law states you have to use the 1st tag 1st.

So I'm not sure you know what you are talking about. All the laws are not in the hunting pamphlet and there is a disclaimer stating such and saying it is the hunter's responsibility to know the laws.

I've been stopped numerous times, and not once asked if I had a pen on me. So either most agents don't know the law, or that guy was being an arse. I'm going with the latter.

I've read Title 76 and Title 56 as they pertain to tagging. No where in those Titles does it say you have to have a pen. However, you cannot follow the tagging regulations if you cannot fill the tag out.

THERE IS NO LAW THAT SAYS YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PEN!

If he stops you in the woods, and you have no deer, he cannot write you a ticket for not having a pen. It's not a law.

Unless they have a secret book that we are not allowed access to, the tagging rules do not specify any of that bullshite.

ETA: If you aren't sure I know what I'm talking about, when I've read Title 76, Part XIX, then I invite you to do the same and prove me wrong.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I was told it’s against the law to even deer hunt without a pen to fill your tag out.

In Alabama many people say that about ink pens but it is not in the law or regulations. I know people who dont carry a pen and if they kill one they use a twig and the deer blood to fill out the form.

Alabama also has an APP, but I understand it records your locations with GPS and other stuff so I dont use it. We have to fill out the form before moving deer and then call it in to the state withing 24 hours.

The ink pen discussion is crazy. Kinda like the supplemental feeding (baiting) regulation. Here it is against state law to bait a deer. However there is a regulation (not state law, but a regulation the DCNR put out) that allows "supplemental feeding" during gun season. The regulation states that the feeder must be more than 100 yards away from the hunter and also cannot be in view of the hunter (behind some natural vegatation). I know people who have received tickets because the warden went by the law. I could see how it can be viewed as a revenue generator but I think it is about the state giving a little room and hunters pushing the limit then bitching because the got a ticket.

We have some feeders out but nobody hunts within 300 yards of them and there is no way to view the feeder from an opening. We had a warden there this past summer and we showed him where we wanted to put the feeders and where our stands were and wanted to make sure it was acceptable and he said we were good to go...

Haha, one of em got a ticket from the same guy that night. But he wasn’t even planning on tagging his deer, I was. Had both of our deer laying down waiting to get skinned.

Ok, I gotta tell on myself a little. AR changed their tags this year from a waterproof-paper tag to a regular paper tag. I got my tags at the Monticello, AR Walmart and went to the office supply section to get laminates for business cards in case it was rainy or bloody at the kill site.

I laminated two cards before opening day, then when I killed a doe realized I couldn't write on a pre-laminated card. Oops. Good thing my uncle is the club president. I only got laughed at, not ticketed.
