This is in Canada and their people are effectively disarmed. Nevertheless, had this happened to me here in the states, I would have put six .357 rounds in its head when it charged that close to me.

I saw that. Pretty scary. Looks like the bear was young and was more interested in the dog. An older bear probably would have not backed down.

In South Carolina even if the bear had charged you or your dog they would have fined you unless you had claw marks.

10MM would have solved problems

She handled it perfectly given what she had to work with. Bear spray may have helped. Using a handgun in that situation while a hand is occupied with the leashed dog seems dicey.

Every few years I’ll get a black bear on one of my trail cameras. The DNR claims they don’t exist in my area but I have the pics to prove them wrong. If they don’t exist then they wouldn’t care if I shot one that charged me or my dog on my property, would they?

Looks like the bear was wanting to play with the dog.
Or maybe I'm stupid. lol

Yes, he wanted to play lunch.

She did really well considering the situation but I’m gonna say something very unpopular. In order to survive that situation, if it had gotten worse, I’m letting go of the dog. Sorry Fido but it’s you or me and well…..

Nobody would ever know that dead bear charged me.

I don’t know exactly what I would have done in that situation but I can guarantee you I would not have filmed the whole thing like she did.

I'm with you on that.

If you kill a bear dispose of it and don’t tell anybody.

Good luck with that, tough guy
I know we are conditioned to think that a gun is the ultimate equalizer, but its been proven again and again that in close contact with a bear (especially grizzlies) a gun is not as effective as you would think. Properly used bear spray is much better to get them away. And I say this as someone who owns plenty of guns.
