at a field trial or hunt test?

Slider

Looking to replace a lab that was lost to cancer and noticed this dog had the same father as mine. Looking for anyone other than the owner who can comment on the dogs ability.

Is $2200 really the going price of stud service for AKC registered hunting pedigreed dogs these days?

Wow, I had no idea.

Pretty high, but they are asking for an option of pick of the liter as well, which that is common. I guess they can decide based on the quality of the bitch that is getting bred. Puppies can fetch that much from proven parents but that is getting extreme top end for a puppy or in this case, stud fee.

Breeding Labs is almost like breeding horses these days.

Yeah. I see that. My little chocolate girl only ran me $250 back 9-10 years ago...If I would have stuck with her training, she would have been a good duck dog...most obedient dog and easily trained I've ever worked with.

She'll be hard to beat. I had a black when I was a kid who set the bar high, now my little Annabelle has passed that..and set the bar herself.

have seen the dog compete and train and have seen some pups. He is the real deal and his pups are looking nice overall. If you are doing the training yourself this is as good of a stud to look at. Bitch line will seperate ok from good to great.

edit: and yes Lauren is good looking and single last I heard. Oh and knows her labs.

I have seen both dog and owner work. Both very impressive.

It's certainly expensive for a puppy but for a top shelf puppy with that kind of blood line that's the going rate these days.

My last two labs came from Chopper and Grady. I paid about 1300 a piece for them.

Chopper female pup also shared the father to this dog had phenomenal drive and intelligence. Was full of piss and vineager and is sorely missed.

The Grady dog is steady as rock but way to soft and you have to baby him when training.

Just trying to make sure that the traits that Chopper had were passed on to Slider. I think I am going to get a pup from a future breeding of his. I guess I should find a trial somewhere and go watch him work.

I have a 2 year old Slider pup that was trained by Kirk Wichman @ Hiddn Lake Kennels. My 2 year old male is a great dog with a lot of drive and very intelligent. I have seen Slidder run and he is a great dog. Just look at his accomplishments.

You will probably see a dog that is "harder" than "soft" as long as bitch side does not over compensate the other way. Sliders mom is known to be a solid bitch which also threw solid pups. The bayou teche dogs were field trial pro type dogs meaning than can take pressure and perform and some could have a temper. At this stage of breeding you should not see that level of aggression as that has been toned down thru the years. Grady pups are known to overall be soft but are usually very intelligent. Slider pups should impress early as they normally have alot of natural ability.Research dam side carefully and if any previous litters. Take your time.

For me I look generationally along female sides mainly looking at production and for consistent traits. If you are looking for heart this could be very good. From rock river leica to little ms chief on the bottom side of the qaa bitch if you would carry this on you would see miss magic marker I think and she is super powder bloodline. This bloodline is very old in the sense to me it is lab royalty. Some tremendous all time greats come from these dogs and tremendous production all around. I am not familiar with riverhills 2nd chance avery but if she has some 'arse" this could be a very interesting breeding.

I am looking for the following in order:

1. Driven
2. Confident
3. Marking ability
4. Dog that can take correction and not pout
5. A little more quiet on the line than my last chopper pup. That was her big fault but she never made it to the prime of her life(cancer) for me to see if she would mellow on the line but stay hot on the drive to the bird.

I have a good dog left. I'm not as purty as her though.
