Technically all migratory birds are protected. Sportsmen basically get a waiver to kill them for a short period of time. Legality of killing a migratory bird is a gray area to start with.

I used to see them all the time down on Louisiana Delta, south of Jonesville, sometimes quite a few.


I'm also seeing them in Richland Parish.

I bought a piece of property between Bee Bayou and Holly Ridge and they've used the adjoining field all year long. Quite a few in this group too. Had a blast showing them to my daughter and letting her listen to them.

I can say I've been tempted to snipe one when they swing over....but like balls, I've refrained.
