I have a dated (not terrible slight rust, little wear) R1100 12Gauge.
I want to either:
Get it professionally done. If so where
or
If it is possible to do at home, what would you suggest?

My vote is to get a gunsmith to do it. You can do it yourself, but the ones I have seen that were done at home just didnt look good.

My dad did a bunch of old shotguns that he had. He took his time and did some research and they turned out great. It gave him something to do on the weekends.

Do not do it yourself. Just bring it somewhere. We have had a couple done.
Eta I should also add these we're guns that meant a lot to the family that were exposed to water during a flood. They were also high price. If they weren't something so valuable we would have done it ourselves.

My father did a combo of the cold blue and heated process and it turned out great. I have no details of how he did his but I know what they looked like before and after. If you are hands on and like to work on things, dont be scared to try it.

Remington is so bad with their bluing. I have an 870 that has nothing left. Thought about cerakoting it. Maybe an idea

I have a few old guns that were given to me by a friend that need reblueing. From what i have seen online Oxphoblue gets good reviews and seems fairly easy to apply. Watch a few vids online.

Yes I've done it. Depends on the quality you want. If you really want it done right then take it to a smith and have it hot blued.
