I heard the palmettos crash when I getting ready to lower my equipment from my climber
Tail condition don’t matter.

Just saw it leaping through the woods with the tail up. Shot was made at 5:15pm. I’ve also never lost a deer I’ve shot.
You sure it was your buck or another deer with it? You may have seen another deer jumping

You hit the deer in the guts and the bullet stopped in the offside shoulder. That’s why there’s no blood. Go find your horns.

I am getting older now (60) and don’t hear as well as I used to. Almost without fail if I shoot and hear the deer make a racket in the woods running away that deer is hit. The more noise the closer I find them. Tail up is not normally a good sign but hearing a deer run into stuff in the woods is a great sign

Thanks. Not taking care of my ears growing up is catching up. I really enjoy hearing the wood noises and thinking every squirrel is a deer. And then finally one of those squirrels is a deer and it’s almost magical

That’s another thing I wear hearing aids. I turn them up and you can hear everything but it’s hard to hear which direction the noise came from.

My shoulder hates me, but that's why I shoot a 35 whelen.

Update
I went back yesterday to see if I could locate the buck. I saw no buzzards. From the shot point and the direction the deer fled. I made 100 yard (10 yards apart) zig zag lines for a distance of 400 yards. I’m calling it a clean miss. I feel better about it now.

Good for you for double checking. You’ve done all you could, short of putting a dog on him. I’ve gone in after the season before to look one more time.

I thought I read somewhere you couldn’t use tracking dogs on WMA’s.

Deer tracking dogs legal on WMA, but must be on leash.

I apologize. You are correct. I went back and read the wma rules and found it. I’ve only lost one deer that was with a bow. But that’s definitely good to know.

I’ve never seen it on a deer center punched with a rifle but quite a few times with the bow.
