Gun Shows - good, bad, tips?

There’s a gun show tomorrow in Thibodaux and I’m thinking of heading over for it. I’ve never been to a gun show. What’s good and bad? Is it worth purchasing firearms there? Any tips?

99% of new guns are going to be MSRP or higher.
You will find the deals in used guns that are gona be banged up and scratched.
Gun Shows are good for people that have a budget and don't know exactly what they want or for those that find guns cool and seeing a whole bunch to pick up and look up in 1 area.
Can also do some trading if you bring a stick with you.

No

Go for the experience, not to buy a gun.

I only go to gun shows now to check out newly released guns and decide if I want to order it online for much cheaper later. What’s odd is the last 3 I’ve been to I haven’t seen a single gen 6 Glock, only the V series. Last gun snow was flooded with Winchester rangers. Only deals you might find is someone walking around wanting to sell privately.

They used to be great back in the old Russian surplus days.
I bought a 140$ AK.
SKS were dirt cheap and so was the ammo
You can buy cheaper at Academy now than a gun show.

Bring on the zombies

I have been to probably 7-10 shows since 2015 not a fan at all.
It is very good to browse and see what’s new and what is out there tend to be some cool booths and products out there but I’d def not buy anything it’s over priced.

they suck. at least where i'm at. mostly fudds selling their fudd guns from the '60s where they're asking double-triple what they paid for them.
then, it's the local dealers that bring in part of their stock to the show for no better deal than what you can get in their store.
then theirs those that came to sell their trinkets that have no value at all.

I enjoy going to them. Occasionally I find a firearm at a fair price, like the mint 29-2 recently, or the Smith & Wesson 586 my friend snagged at a great price from a guy wandering around with it for sale.
If you enjoy looking at firearms you can have a good time and if you are looking to buy used you can handle and inspect them in person.
M1 Garands always seem to be overpriced. New firearms you can probably find cheaper somewhere on the internet but if there is only a $50 difference it might be worth it to buy in person and know exactly what you are buying. I just cruise right past the jerky, etc.
Also, firearms from 7 or 8 decades ago, like revolvers, are worth several times the original cost. Check out the finish and craftsmanship on a 60's or 70's Colt or Smith revolver. There is a reason they fetch a premium price.
I usually don't see many premium 1911s, like Wilson, Baer, Alchemy, etc. but there will be Colts and Rugers, etc.

gun show were awesome back in the day. Now alot of them let anybody willing to pay the fee set up a booth and peddle all their homemade junk.
You can find some pretty sweet knives, daggers, swords and the like though

All you see now are AR15's and Glocks for sale.

Expensive flea market.

People watching, carney food, and treating it as a very small scale gun museum. That’s what you go for.

Ahhh yes the rainbow colored hodgepodge with Amazon Chinese hand selected parts hanging off it everywhere. That’ll be $2700 please. That doesn’t include a mag.

The last time I went to a gun show, there was one table with some stag ARs, and another with some DPMS. Times have changed
They weren’t trying to cut any deals back then either.

I’m not making this all. 3 weeks ago I went to a gun show and saw a guy selling an Anderson lower (it was completed with mil spec parts) and he had $340 on it. I’m not kidding.

That reminds me of a review I read the other day. Some guy was unhappy with a gun store and left a bad review because he wanted an AR and he traded his prodigy 2011 in for a Bear creek 300 blackout upper with and Anderson Lower.

Remember when they had all those Mosin Nagants flying around? Wish I had one now

Something we should have all learned in the past 30 years is that when surplus is cheap, you should buy a bunch of it.
Now with the military using all select fire stuff I wonder if we'll ever see true surplus rifles for sale again. Ive been patiently waiting for CMP to get 50 bazillion M9's or M16 uppers for cheap, but the only thing modern they get are sniper rifles that auction off for more than the price of a lightly used modern pickup truck.
