If you are on the X its all good. W a guide you have a better chance plus they have the decoys and e caller.
Sometimes its a little slower and u have to scratch out some birds ... its hunting

Sorry guys I failed to mention this is a guided hunt I am going on. Does that help my chances?

The only thing that helps is they may have more access to ground and landowners which increases your chance that they are holding birds on one of their fields. But overall when you take it all into account, not much better at all.

Just don't get your hopes up, go for the "experience". If you kill 10 snows consider it a good hunt.

Most advertised pics you see of conservation snow hunts in Louisiana are a decades worth of hunts that they just keep using on Facebook.

After hearing feedback, Hell if I kill anything I’d take that. I wasn’t expecting an ice chest full of goose but something would be nice.

Sounds like any bird hunting. Extremely hit or miss. No in between

As a part time waterfowl guide I can't stress this enough. Monday I took the day off of my real job and had my limit by 6:40. Stayed another couple of hours to watch birds and landed 2 groups of over 300 birds. Never went more than 15 minutes without landing something.

Yesterday work was canceled due to ice. In 4 hours my group of 3 killed 6 birds, without a single bird getting away.

Some days are good, some suck. And we cant always tell which it will be.

We have conservation clients coming in tomorrow against our advice. We asked them to reschedule but they can't. So in an hour I get to go help put out 120 dozen socks and I don't want to think how many full bodies.

If it's good, they are amazing. If they suck, bring snacks and a thermos. It will be a long day.

Ol baw telling it like it is. Had to laugh when someone mentioned a few hundred decoys or something....more likely a couple thousand if you even want to be in the game.

Been there done that from Kaplan to lake Arthur. Hard to hunt those birds who have lived all season already with hunters all around them unless you now get silent access to the areas where “the body” has roosted and fed peacefully all season. Or you hit a foggy day and can set up in field next to the body. IMHO you can’t imitate the “body” in sight, sound, movement etc with 100-200 decoys.

Do I need to buy the federal stamp again if I already bought it in Texas?

Also is the 5 day out of state hunting license my only option? There isn’t a one day license is there?

Federal is good everywhere.

And yeah, due to thick ice we only put out a small spread today of 480 socks and 6 dozen full bodies. That will triple at minimum when we don't have to use a rebar punch for every stake.

Freaking Louisiana politics. Gotta squeeze every dollar out that they can.

Update: didn’t kill shite. Saw a ton of specklebellys. One massive swarm of snow but none got low enough to shoot at.

It was a good experience just to get my feet wet literally. Now I know what to expect.

See post 2. Not saying this was your experience, but it had to be close.

The hunters who pay for the trip should not have to pick up or set out decoys. I know they do and I have but it always pissed me off. Guides need to bring out a decoy caddie and send him back to the shop on his four wheeler before 30 minutes before. Call him back when it's done.

Sorry you didn’t have a good hunt. Was hoping you would. Most of our geese have left by this time.

I fired a shot but it was knowing that there was a good chance of it hitting nothing. They flew right over us but way too high. Saw a ton of specklebellys.

The overall organization of this hunt just wasn’t great however we did not have to put out any of the decoys. They handled all of that.

A few north La outfitters been having some luck, but it's still not as good as ARK and MO right now as the mass has shifted back north a bit.

Frustrating when hundreds pass over from thousands nearby and you can’t get any. I swear that snows and blues take off and land like helicopters not planes and unless you are within 500-800 yrds of the touch down spot and on the inbound or outbound route, or it’s foggy, or you are hunting virgin ground where the body come back to roost, you are wasting time.
