This was most surprising they didn't intervene even a little. I can see maybe a bachelor group from Minnesota not knowing wtf was going on and not speaking up.

Maybe that speaks to personally knowing what a hot head the captain is though.

One of them put out an explanation/apology video.

I thought the boat that supposedly was without their lights on was a different boat that was just fishing the same spot near the kid who filmed the encounter. Pretty sure he said multiple times in the video that he had his lights on and it was another boat who didn’t have lights

Correct

The kid did admit that his "not buddy" didn't have them on. Also either the kid, or another person on his boat, apparently got into a cursing match with the captain the previous night over the incident.

Look at me, standing up for a psycho

Even if there was no actual "buddy" and the kid didnt have his lights on and called the dude a fig, Horner is still a colossal POS. Absolutely no excuse to escalate things like that

Exactly. Sometimes people say dumb things. Losing your shite over it can wind up getting your arse beat, arrested, or killed. Or I guess in this case, dragged on the internet with your reputation and business ruined.

Apparently, there were four or five boats fishing under that bridge early that morning. The Captain blew through there and swamped them. Of course they yelled at him. Later, he came back through there and stopped and got in the altercation with the kid asking him if he was the one who cussed him out that morning. He also claimed that none of them had their lights on. Either way he was wrong to blow the bridge with people obviously fishing under there. Lights on or not. He has to handle the situation better than that. He was pretty much wrong about 100% of the entire incident.

My guess is when he came back through there with his buddies on board, he wanted to show off and be a bad arse and he took it out on the kid. You and I both know that you can't handle that situation that way and from seeing his demeanor, I would bet it's not his first time. Coast Guard will pull his license and he will never do another charter again.

As a professional, you have to assume that all the other people around you are not as trained as you are at your profession. There is no more obvious place than on the water. So many people are so clueless about what to do, you can't just have it out with them if you're a professional. I know we all get angry, but this guy obviously has an issue and honestly shouldn't be in that profession.

Take it some from someone who did it for a very long time. 90% of the people on the water truly have no idea what they're doing or how to do it. Your job is to navigate that and not to blow things up like he did.

You could take a month of Sundays and still come up empty to find someone that thinks the extent of what Horner did was acceptable. Only people would be contrarians or his mother.

I don’t want to be a contrarian today, and I’m not defending this guy at all.

I will say that kid probably learned the lesson not to cuss out someone who you aren’t willing to fight.

I myself learned that lesson at about 20 years old. Haven’t flipped anyone off since then.

Yeah I'm torn on that.

On one hand, society shouldn't accept that people can go around cursing people out with zero repercussions like life is a video game.

On the other, you cant, and shouldn't, assault someone because they said nasty words to you.

Yup.

There was a time when he might have ended up severely beaten or worse instead of just scared.

Of course, there are still people who would beat him half or whole to death if he said the wrong them to them at the wrong time, but we aren’t supposed to notice that.

not so sure about that. he said he yelled fricking at the guy. then maybe a friend on the boat or someone called him a fig... there was a mixed story that them two kept on yelling back a bit.

I definitely don’t believe that the kid never cussed the guy in the first place since this video directly contradicts that.

Again, not blaming the kid. The man should have been the level-headed one and definitely shouldn’t have boarded the boat.
