Just bought a Ruger American Hunter Magpul 6.5 creedmoor and was looking for a scope. Didn't plan on getting a Vortex or a 4 power minimum, but ran across this deal and couldn't pass it up. It's at Midway for $269.99, 4-16x50 Viper HS.

I'm considering buying this same scope. Anyone here have an first-hand experience with this scope or similar vortex scope? I've heard mixed reviews on clarity at higher magnifications.

Looks like a great deal, why is that particular scope on sale? Sometimes they have one odd minute feature that you can easily skip over in the details that no one wants. Is that the case here?

I have one and my personal experience wasn’t pleasant. Feel like it’s very poor in low light conditions and lots of glare if the sun is setting anywhere facing you. I replaced with Meopta and have been very pleased since.

I have had a 4-16-44 Viper HSt for several years. Eye relief is not as good as my Leopolds and there is some clarity loss at the edges.
That being said it has not failed and I had bought it on a 40% or more sale a few years back from midway. For what I paid I would buy again!!

If I didn't have a spare scope already, I'd pick this up.

It doesn't explicitly state there are blemishes or defects, only that it is a one-time offering. If you click on that it states something about working out a deal with the manufacturer.

My original plan was to go with a Leupold VX3i, but when I saw this scope I figured I couldn't beat it for the money. Got the scope, Seekins rings, couple other odds and ends for the price of just the Leupold. Don't really rifle hunt much anyway.

I didn't mean blemishes, I meant for example this scope has 3 knobs. What's the 3rd knob for?

A lot of time these single scope great deals are an odd reticle no one wants, odd power, or some other even more minute detail.

Even though the rings were free I didn't get them. Went with Seekins rings. Have Vortex optics on my 22 & 17 already. Was really pleased with a PST I had, thinking about going back to a first focal plane, will see how the clarity on this one is.

Thinking about ordering the Burris Veracity and Leupold VX3I and keeping the clearest.

It seems like this is the norm for vortex. Unless u get the razor, everything is pretty good image wise but good features at a decent price. I have a 5-25 gen 2 pst and had a gen 1 pst and a 6.5x20x50. Transitioning to Leupold and Zeiss.
