I've ate the claws before. Any meat in the body? Is it worth boiling or just the claws?

There is no minimum recreational size limit for blue crabs. The limit is 12 dozen per person, daily and in possession.
Certain WMAs and state and federal refuges may have different possession limits. Reference WMA and refuge regulations or contact a local LDWF Enforcement Office for specifics .
There is no minimum recreational size limit for stone crabs or stone crab claws.

Ranch. You can keep them. What I'm asking is if there is good meat in the body? I follow all hunting & fishing regs. Hell I throw 12.1234 inch specks back.

No, the body meat sucks, which is why you take one claw and throw it back. That way someone else can get another claw eventually.

False.

quote:

Louisiana law provides that only legal stone crab claws can be set on shore from a vessel and that whole stone crabs cannot be landed, except for a tolerance of one stone crab per crate of blue crabs.

boiled up some Matagorda bay stone crab claws last nite plus about 2 doz fat blue crabs. Snap one claw off the stonies and return to the water. We caught about a dozen in the traps and they were so so good

crabs right now are full and sweet

How long does it take to regrow their claw?

Google says 1 year.

they'll have a small one after one molt but it takes a few years for a full regrow. They can eat fine with one though. matty bay is full of them right now

you can also dig them up out of the mud if you know what to look for

I was always taught to break off the big claw and throw the crab back. Probably better for the resource any way.

Boiled the shite out of them. Body meat was great. Claw meat was great. Locals say we caught some dinosaurs. About like some good size Dungeness crabs.

There's plenty of meat in stone crab bodies, and it's good too. You CAN keep them per the recreational regs: "Blue crabs or stone crabs can be taken
with any legal crab trap, crab drop
net, trawl, hoop net, trotline, handline,
bushline, dip net or cast net." LINK

Commercial crabbers can only keep 1 claw.
