Got an AR i leave in the mud boat for hogs. Its got a peep sight on it but looking to put something on a little more friendly on it for kids to shoot. Low budget cause it is staying in the boat. Dont want to put a regular rifle scope on it. Anybody used those vortex or truglo red dots at BPS?

Holosuns are nice and in the budget.

I like the Holosun made red dots at the low 100s price range. Auto on and thousands of hours battery life. You can get them rebadged under Sig Sauer, primary arms, and Tru-Glo Trutec names.

Primary Arms, Vortex, Holoson, and Sig would be good entry red dots. I also owned a Bushnell TRS25 (less than $100) that ran just fine for a while.
Also pay attention to which optics can switch to a green dot if your eyesight isn’t great with the red. Otherwise, you should be happy with any of the ones suggested.
EDIT: if you want to extend your range a bit and get a scope, the price may go up slightly. We would need to know what your preference is first. For general use, the dot should suffice.

Leupold RDS it’s waterproof and has a lifetime warranty. You cans get them for 299. If you want the BDS version it’s 399.I have the BDS version on my AR truck gun. Very pleased with it.

And some people with astigmatism will see a red dot like this...

With my contacts yes
With my glasses no. Weird.

Any of the holosun sights are great for the money.

Definitely go to a shop and look through one first if you've never used one before. It's true that some people just can't use them really effectively because of the way their eyes work.
Some people see a crisp half inch dot at 25 yards and others see a five inch smeared out Starburst.
