After having to put our last dog down in the fall that we adopted almost 11 years ago, we are inching closer to being ready to adopt again. We had gotten him from yelp, but they are no longer in business. Anyone have experience with pet adoption lately around the greater EBR area? We def want to adopt not purchase from a breeder. Im thinking it will be closer to Easter or maybe the summer before we are 100% ready, but I’d like to be on the lookout anyway. Tia.

We got ours from Dante’s Hope. They have a Facebook page and their current adoptable dogs are on pet finder. Dante’s Hope. I think they are located in Zachary.

Maybe check LP animal shelter. As I understand it, they eyeball you a bit and ask some questions, trying to make sure you're not just gonna tie it to a tree.

Most every parish has a shelter with lots of dogs that need homes. CAAWS in EBR for sure will help you.
And if you go to Petsmart on a Saturday there are plenty of animals up for adoption.

Animal Adoption House on Highland. We adopted from there in January and had a good experience.

You could try Companion Animal Alliance Shelter on the LSU campus, Gourrier Ave, down the road from the baseball stadium. LINK

Not in those parishes but I've adopted two from take paws rescue in New Orleans.
They are great.
