Could anyone recommend a good bow shop near West Monroe? I’m looking to try out some new arrows, so essentially looking for a place that will sell, assemble them for me and let me try them out. Thanks!

Have you tried Simmons in Bastrop?

Also, it’s about an hour away, but Hoot and Holler Archery in Bossier will definitely do all the things you are asking for

Go see Rodney at Tyner Petrus. Man has been working on bows as long as every other person in the area collectively.

Damn, I can't believe he hasn't hung his cleats up yet. Man, he started working on bows when cavemen were still hunting Wooly Mammoths.

Hate to hijack this thread but I moved to Monroe last year. No clue how many OB dudes are here. Any recs on 1. Places to eat and 2. Fun things to do? I just really haven't found much.

no problem at all.

I moved here 2 weeks ago, so I’m not the person that knows. Besides the normal warehouse no 1 and waterfront grill, I haven’t ventured out much yet.

I’d love to meet up with people that bow hunt public land around here and learn some areas though

Places to eat:
1.) Parish
2.) Doe’s Eat Place
3.) Enoch’s Irish Pub

Things to do:
Plenty of public land to hunt & fish around the Monroe/WM Area.
Grab a beer at Flying Tiger
Drive to Ruston and spend the day down town.

If you want, you can shoot me an email at my username at gmail. I would be down to go shoot my bow with you at the west monroe range when I get some free time.

No boat, unfortunately. This will be a big change from Ohio public land. We’d wade through the river with a homemade floating gear/deer sled. I don’t see that happening here.

It’s not going to be Ohio quality but you have some good public land real close. Russell sage wma and darbonne and black bayou NWR There’s everything from piney woods to bottomland hardwoods depending on what you like If you drive a little further tensas is best around New Years

If you do get a boat darbonne is your place

And as far as boats go up there you can leave your house in any direction and be fishing some real good waters in less than 30 minutes

That depends. There is a WMA due East of Monroe on I-20 that is kinda known for duck hunting. It has been mentioned in a post above but I will leave it at that. I killed some studs in the flooded woods because those deer escape the pressure by going straight to the water where honestly, no one messes with them. They literally have zero fear of duck hunters and bed on the few clumps of dry ground or trees that are laid over in the water.

Honestly, NE LA is obscene with public hunting opportunities. From deer to ducks, you literally can kill just as good on public as you can on private and maybe more so with the ducks these days. Also, if you end up getting a boat, fishing is even more obscene with places to go. You could pretty well pick one body of water and spend years on it knowing there are 6-7 more that are just as good. I know that area gets a shite reputation for lots of stuff but outdoor stuff to do is not one of them.

I can’t speak for Rodney at TP, I’ve heard he’s great but I now drive past Simmons to go to the spotted dog for Richard and Micheal when it comes to archery.
