GMC/Chevy 3.0 Duramax Diesel feedback
Posted by Douglas Quaid on 11/2/22 at 6:19 pm

Anybody have one? Looking to hear the good, the bad, the ugly.
Problem? Reliability? Longevity? I know it is probably too soon for much real insight.

Have heard nothing but good things so far but too early to really tell.

I only have about 3,500 on mine. Great fuel mileage if you’re easy on the skinny pedal (and the big pedal when you’re in town). I haven’t towed with it yet, so no comment on that.
Only issues with the truck itself: (1) the wireless charger is misaligned and I have to put some velcro strips in the bottom to get my phone to charge, (2) there is a knock in the rear when I turn or hit a bump, and (3) on cold start mine has about about a 2 second delay before it begins to crank (not cold temp-which may necessitate a delay, but in the morning regardless of temp). I'm taking it in next week to see about getting those issues ironed out.

Great fuel mileage I’m getting ~29mpg driving hwy and keeping it under 72mph. Only have 3400 or so miles on it but so far I like it.
Haven’t towed anything but a 16ft trailer and tractor loaded on it, mpg was 13-14 and it didn’t have the umph my 5.3v8 had but it pulled it.

They now have a high output offering which gives you 13+k towing I think.

I have about 13k on mine. Zero issues to far.
Getting about 20 mpg in town and 27 on the highway running 78 mph or as high as 32 mpg when I’ve done 60 mph.
Towed a few trailers with about 3-4K lbs load and pulled a 21’ bass boat and got 15-17 mpg.
I’ve absolutely loved the truck so far. Only complaint is diesel is costing its weight in gold right now

2021 with close to 70k miles. Outside of occasionally not wanting to start on the first press of the start button, it’s been fantastic.
The whole not wanting to start thing is weird and super frustrating though. I’ll press the start button and you can here the starter just firing off over and over and over, must last 15-20 seconds. Dealer says “nothing we can do unless we can repeat it”.
Which sucks because in the 70k miles I’ve been driving it it’s probably happened 10 times.
Other than that (and the fact that diesel is so high at the moment) it’s been a great truck.

Ditto what everyone has said.
Fantastic truck/powertrain. Unbelievable mileage towing or not, especially if you keep your foot out of it somewhat.
Average 24 town/ 29-30 hwy.
18 -19mpg towing a 20’ Basscat/tandem axle trailer set-up.
This has been my only issue as well. Seems to do it about every 5K miles. My understanding is the cam/timing chain are a c-hair off of the starting timing mark and thus the engine tries to crank but won’t turnover. Starter automatically stops trying after 10 secs and has cranked on first try immediately every time afterwards.
Have 33K on mine and wouldn’t dream of buying a truck with any other package unless you need to tow 8,000 lbs plus often.
Diesel prices suck as others have mentioned but hopefully that doesn’t last forever.

Same… 40,000 miles… fuel mileage is awesome. Everything has worked just like it should. We have a few in our fleet up to 60,000 and all have been very solid…
Not much a “tow truck”. Still a half ton truck at the end of the day. When I pull my camper is sucks on the def pretty hard and gets in the low teens fuel mileage. So it is definitely a good daily driver, capable of towing just like any other half ton truck.

Going on 2 years in my 2021 chevy. Absolutely love the truck. About to hit 50k miles

60,000 on my GMC AT4. 18/19 mpg around town, 21-23 on the interstate (i usually have cruise set to 78). Had no issues whatsoever. Towing, shifting, power are way better than my old F150 Ecoboost. Love it.

My business partner has one and loves it. Of course he says he won't really know how good it is until it is out of warranty.

Very efficient but man they are slow and towing is much worse than you would think for a diesel. There's a reason they are dropping that motor, its not that special.

I wonder what they’ll get when they’re deleted lol

The new ones are rated for 13.3k. It will get interesting to see if they keep the same reliability.

A co-worker has one and says he loves it so far. He averages 26mpg and can push it to 29-30mpg sometimes. He has been having it for about year now and has not had any issues.
