Glock 17 problem

I've got a glock 17 that has a problem. About once every two or three magazines, it fails to feed. The round will fire, the slide will kick back and eject the cartridge, and then it will hang as if it was out of ammo (though it is not). All I have to do is hit the slide release and the next round is chambered and ready to fire.
I have replaced the mag springs. That did not fix the issue Any other ideas?

No. I've been shooting glocks for years and I own several. This 17 is the only one I have this issue with.

What generation is it? Glock recently had a recall on the gen4 recoil springs.

Need to check the pins inside that hold that slide release. Had this issue before and one of those were broken. Quick fix once you get the part.
May want to bring it to a gunsmith if you don't know much about them.

I have this same problem with me Berretta 92. I wonder if it's the same cause.

It's likely either limp wristing it or the pistol hasn't been shot in enough.
The 17 is notorious for this. But it lasts forever after about 500 rounds.

Could be an issue with your grip, accidentaly engaging the slide stop while shooting. Not uncommon.

Had this issue on my Cougar (I know that Glocks and Berettas have zero in common, but...)
Stretched the mag springs some and oiled them really well...haven't had it happen again.
Mark your magazines to see if it's the same one doing it.

Schwartz is on to something, clean your mags.

I have cleaned my mags and I have even changed the springs. It happens with all mags, not just one. I have put thousands of rounds through it and this is a new problem. I'll look into the pin issue, that might be something because this is a gen 1 glock so it is about 10 years old. It has seen a lot of use in it's time but I clean it well every time it gets shot. I really am baffled.

Could be a problem with the ammo you're shooting.

Have you recently disassembled the frame? removing all 3 pins? If you did, you may have inadvertantly put the wrong pin in first causing the slide stop spring to malfunction.

I'd also think of possible ammo related issues...
What type of ammo?
Full metal jacket or hollow point?
Has it handled this ammo well in the past?
Is the problem limited to a single box of this ammo, multiple boxes of same type ammo or a problem w/ ALL types of ammo?

I have not broken down the firearm past a field strip. The ammo I've been using is fmj Winchester bulk and now that you say that, I have only recently switched to that.
Anyone else have issues with Winchester ammo?

I use only Winchester white box in my 17.

Is this your first time shooting it? DId you buy it used?

do you have another glock that fires ok? If so, lock the action back and look for a silver slide plate by looking fromt he top down. Compare it to the functional glock. If its bent, usually to the right, grab some needle nose and bend it back.
I had this on a brand new glock 17. Compared the feed slides to my other glocks and saw it right away. slight bend and it worked fine.
Good luck.

Your slide lock assembly is probably worn out. Easy fix.

1. Oiling mag springs in a Glock is not recommended.
2. Limp wristing is usually the first "suspect," but the OP says he has fired a lot of ammo through this pistol.
3. Riding the slide with a thumb is also a common cause.
4. Beyond that, it is likely an internal part (or mag springs) that is severely worn. The Gen 1 G17's are generally about as reliable as anything you can own.
5. If you are unsure about detail stripping and/or inspecting parts, ship the pistol and mags to Glock. They will go through it thoroughly, replace any parts that are worn or that have been upgraded since your gun was made -- and they won't charge you anything for doing so.
